cissadoPremium join:2008-01-14 Clifton, NJ | Extra fee for buying a Gift Card. Not sure if this is a rant because it was partly my fault. My complaint is against Amex cc company. I purchased 4 Amex Gift cards worth $200 total. 4 x $50/each. I did not realize, and this is where my mistake was made, that there was a fee invvolved in buying them. $5 each card! WTF? Seriously? Long line at the register, people behind me, I had to make a decision, so I bought them. $220 total and I paid WITH MY AMEX CARD!
I got home, called Amex because i changed my mind. I either wanted the fee waived (awesome) or just to have my money back and I will return the cards. No way, they said. Umm, I can't even return them? I just bought them (with my Amex card) and did not use them yet. Nope.
They finally said they could cancel the cards but I would still have to pay the $20 fee. LMAO Are you serious? I actually asked them if they were joking. It was very upsetting.
I use my Amex card for everything I do. I spend about $40k/year, every year with this card. I said "you're willing to lose my business for this $20 issue?" I guess so.
Dec 12 was the last time I used the card. Trust me, that's about 50 transactions. Capital One here I come. 1.5% cashback will have to do. I've been using that ever since.
Getting off the phone with Amex CS rep... "Is there anything else I can help you with today?...." Ummm, NO, thank you, bye.
Oh yeah, I haven't been to Costco either. Damnit! lol I did go once and paid with a check. Is there a Sam's club nearby? Hmmm. rant! thanks for reading. |

"why yes, i would like to cancel this account now thank you." worse thing you could do! don't close the account, especially if it has been open for a long time. just don't use it! you want the age of accounts to stay high on your credit reports. |

| reply to cissado Ever since forever they have charged for doing preloaded gift cards to bring them up to the same level of money made as a regular card and to prevent people from swearing off regular credit cards. The itunes, amazon etc dont charge a fee because they want you to use them where as a generic card doesnt guarantee business for any one company that would be willing to subsidize the processing fees. |

though i really dont see a problem with a fee to purchase a gift card, not just $5 any way, they need to cover the cost of that plastic some how. unless it had other fee's like a per transaction fee |

cissadoPremium join:2008-01-14 Clifton, NJ | reply to thegeek Oh, I forgot. They did cancel my account. That was partly my fault as well. I was on hold to talk to a representative, and was then prompted to select from a series of option "To better assist you", so I thought I was going to retention department. While still on hold and through the automated system, my account was cancelled. Member since 1995. That's it, no talking to anyone, they just cancelled me through the automated system! Damn.... I tried changing it to no avail. They did ask at the end if I wanted to keep the account to press 0, which I did. The rep told me I would keep the account but with a different number. So now my CC says "Member since 2011" lol. I'm not using it anyway. Yes, my credit score will suffer from it.
Ehhh, it was above 800 last year. 805 and going up, so who knows/cares, but it still sucks. It just made me upset. Yes, my fault. I'm not perfect. |

"Nice credit score you've got here, be a shame if anything were to ... happen to it."
The whole credit score thing is a ridiculous scam that has no relationship to reality. Example: me, 6-fig income, zero debt, maybe around $40K limit on credit cards, scores lower than mrs. (acting) dave, who has no income. |

| reply to cissado I have amex. I got a capital one card for international travel as it has no international fees. Then I realized I get more points with better way to use the points. I keep the amex open, but now I use capital one for everything. Just a few minutes ago I just reimbursed 26K in points for $260 off my bill. Good times.
I like how you can customize your card with a picture. I keep trying to get copyrighted pictures on the card and they keep denying me. I hope I can slip something good through one of these days to have the best CC ever. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

So you felt rushed at the store, and instead of backing out, you decided to buy the cards. Last time I bought those cards, I remember on the front, and even the back, it listed the price.
Then you called Amex and tried to make them pay for your inability to think under pressure. And when they refuse, you pull the "you're willing to lose my business over $20 dollars" - Yes they are. They don't need you.
Don't want the product? Take it back to the store and fight with the store where you bought it from. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.us | Reverseip.us |
