z0rdell join:2003-08-25 Des Moines, IA | Pretty Sad It's pretty sad that I pay $113 a month for the 50/5 service and I can't even watch YouTube or Netflix. Pathetic. What's worse is that I actually thought upgrading to the 50/5 service, from MAX, would some way help with these problems. Even with my line being completely checked out and given the ok by technicians and the fact that I have a spanking new modem, I guess there are just too many tweens in my neighborhood surfing the internet. I guess I might as well downgrade to the cheapest service available, since I'll probably get about the same speeds.
Rant finished. |

Been experiencing problems where speeds work fine at like wee hours of the morning.. and then during peek times.. from like 5pm to even 11pm.. speeds that are suppose to be 11Mb/s.. are 1Mb/s Downloads. Technicians have been here twice now.. of course every time they come the speeds are fine because it's during a time where everyone is at work and not home surfing the net. So technician says.. "every thing looks fine to me.." and he checks lines and what not.. and says doesn't find any problems. But there HAS to be something going on why I'm still getting slow speeds.. it has to be an Overloaded Node or what ever they call it.. I mean.. something has to be going on??? Anyway.. yeah frustrating.. though MediacomChad has been very consistent on trying to find out what the problem is. Honestly I think it will just have to come down to adding another node or something, otherwise we are just going to have to try another cable internet provider to see if that helps.. though I would prefer Mediacom because they offer faster speeds for the same price. |

If you want to send me your telephone# or MAC ID I can check your signals and firmware and see what is going on for you. |

 | reply to z0rdell I would note that Youtube to this day is notorious for having buffering issues even on the grandest of connections. And I've noted over the past few months that Netflix will tick down a couple notches on the quality meter between 6-9 CST. Even as my connection will test at 10Mbps+ down.
Not saying that's the case here but Netflix has been annoying me by only connecting at a bar or two on the xBox during peak even though my connection is clearly not saturated, i.e. at the same time a SpeedTest will test out fine or I can fire up a download from Steam at expected speeds. |

| Sometimes videos buffer faster when I use AT&T 3G with 3mb, than mediacom 12 mb with the same average speed 3mb/s during peak hours. I think it's the upstream channel that is weakest link. I also would not expect peering and routing the same quality as with Comcast or Other large ISPs. |

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | YouTube not buffering is mostly YouTube's fault. The thing is watching it on your phone you might not be watching it at the same video size as on your computer so you can't compare the two. You'll see huge differences in download speed from there between the different resolutions. When I have 'issues' buffering changing the either higher or lower to find the faster buffer from YouTube. |

Nope. Streamed same videos on computer via tethering. Try to explain this. |

 | This _is_ a major issue with Youtube right now. If you search around you will find that they have switched the technology they use to stream videos and in some cases of high bandwidth it actually causes lots of start-and-stop playing. It is hard to believe, but yes it is a problem. Sometimes you can try switching to 720p and it will stream much better. |

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | reply to chgo_man99 Like I said switching resolutions often changes download speeds. I've had 720p video that would barley download at 15kb/s. Swap to 1080 then right back to 720 and was downloading at 800kb/s, this is has been happens on most videos for over a year now. Do a search, it's not like I'm pulling your leg on this. |
