Frontier slow connection in the evening hours 7-11PM WV

Hey guys, I know there have been some complaints already about this before. Frontier has sent a repair technician three times, and of coarse nothing could be done. Today what I want to do is send an email to Ken.Arndt@ftr.com and complain. My speeds have been about 1-2Mbps down at night, in the day I get about 5.86Mbps down and .32 Up. The only way this is going to be solved is if we all email our respective regional manager.
(listed here »www.frontier.com/customerservice/8/)

If they get enough emails about this they might actually do something about it. Also, join my speed wave here »www.speedtest.net/wave/b48f967178c7f18d. (only if your on Frontier please)

I have emailed him on several occassions concerning this issue. It is purely a matter of congestion on the network, I am filing a complaint with the PUC.

The Public Service Commission will do nothing about internet connections. Only the phone service along with electricity and water will they do anything about the service. Done tried a while back.

Frontier was supposed to have a upgrade going in Charleston WV that would alleviate some of the congestion.
What I believe you are seeing is the same type crap that happens on Hughesnet.Peek hours offer reduce performance.
Every one is on the network so it all slows down.

Frontier has stated they are doing new Roll Outs in WV.I am still waiting for them to come to Rosedale.

I called them today and told them about my problem in detail. I will post back if they do anything.

This is in the Hampshire county area. Absolutely unacceptable.

It is most certainly a congestion issue. People come home from work/school, turn on Netflix, boot up Facebook, and everyone suffers.

Frontier actually now changed their plan description from "3Mbit connection" to "Up to 12Mbit"; when I called to complain about the slow speeds at night, the customer service rep said "Um, you're getting up to 12Mbit, sir."

Terrible ISP. Unfortunately, the only guys in this area.

Mine is so slow right now, I can't even get the speedtest.net to load, it just states configuration load failed in big red letters.

I emailed the Ken.Ardnt@ftr.com about 2 weeks ago. The next day I got an email from customer service escalation team. In short, basically they said they are working on it. I can tell you I have had the service for almost a year now, and it makes me wonder what they have been "working" on in that time frame. My service has been like this since the day I got it. I have no other choice, or else I would be jumping ship like there was no tomorrow. And this is not from just 1900-2300 for me, its from like 1500-0100 most of the time - every single day.

Well I will put it the way a worker told me about Frontier.

Frontier bought a 1940's Bucket of rust. They are now Restoring it to Show Room Quality.

This of coarse means loads of parts and money. So I dunno.

What I do know is this.I am on Hughesnet and almost all the tests in here are better then mine. However we do not use that site to test on.For various reasons.

I do know I was at my Pop's for a year living in between my 9000 systems set up and my 7000s system....His service was 1.5 meg plan and it made me very happy.Only time I had issues with Frontier was when I played WOW and he streamed Netflix...it would bog down, like being on Satellite bog down.

The other time was due to the little wires in the connector box corroding a little and developing hairline fractures in the copper.Little condensation and it was up and down.I HIGHLY recommend to people having issues in WV that have Frontier to check their grey box...refresh the wires on the service (10mm socket and I know it says to stay out) and user side by checking nothing is loose/corroded or needs a bit of wire stripped back and replaced.
Some of the wire in service is from the 60's.
Also make darn sure you have the line filter in use.Voice and DSL run on different spectrum and if the box filter is bad then you can develop ups and downs.

Today is the estimated fix date for the problems in my area, I guess time will tell. I have called several times this week, just for record keeping purposes. I am told every time that there is a common cause ticket for my area and there is really nothing that can be done until that ticket is resolved.

I'm still getting this exact same problem in Indiana. It's been going on for over a year now like clockwork. 35ms pingtest during day, then it shoots to 135ms minimum from about 6pm until midnight or so.

Net result is that my internet isn't usable for gaming during the times that I would like to be gaming with my friends.

Same problem for me here in Troutdale. From about 6 PM to midnight the speed slows way down for the past couple days.

Did they not actually drop any of your speeds from the CO? I was dropped from 3.5Mb to 1.3Mb until 'upgrades' are complete.

I've been told we were getting upgrades for 3 years now so I don't expect my speed to ever go back.

Frontier dropping speeds only makes them look worse on the global speed test charts than they already are with partially congested lines (like mine) that can at least hit 1.2 - 2.2Mbps at night on a speed test until the congestion eases. If it brings the averages up until the congestion is solved with additional capacity, then I guess it's ok (without any in-depth thoughts). Either way, hope it isn't for too long as paying for 3 but getting 1 isn't really acceptable. In my area if my sync rate was dropped down, I'd contact a local tech I know in the CO and he'll fix the speed. If they can't fix it, then it's basically dropping to Frontier Lite as it at least runs at 1.2Mbps/160kbps here. Considering though, that the congestion isn't local, there should be no need to drop me to 1Mbps from 3Mbps. Speeds are nice and consistent to Rochester, staying at a solid 3,200kbps without jitter. Once you begin to travel depper into Frontier's network in Rochester, it's congested.

This past weeks emails with them have been hilarious. It took me 3 days of bugging John Mutscheller to even get a reply out of him.

His 1st reply.

quote:
DJ,

I thought I explained this situation before, if I wasn't clear I apologize.

Frontier is working on a Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer system for the entire state. This will give us flexibility in routing traffic and the ability to increase bandwidth. We continue to move forward on this project but it is a huge undertaking. As part of this job we had to replace a lot of fiber facilities in my area. Most of this was done at night so customers wouldn't know we were working on the system.

I don't have a completion date at this time but we are moving forward.

john
My reply.

That doesn't explain why I was dumped down to almost nothing from 3Mb, nor does it explain the PDF file that was on the frontier website saying upgrades were going to be done in November.

I'm not trying to be rude and I apologize if it comes of that way, I'm just tired of the constant issues.

Do you have any timeframe on when the cell tower in Frankford will be turned on? I noticed 2 Frontier trucks going up there earlier for the first time in a few weeks.

DJ
His reply....

I don't have a turn up date for ATT, that will be up to them.

Frontier should be done with our facility build this week.

john
Within an hour my speed stats were bumped to 3.5Mb again, but of course I can't hit those speeds.

Also, the cell tower in question was on for about 30 minutes after those emails and then promptly shut off again.

I was originally told about the road M network this time last year btw.

I love how he ignores my question about the pdf and doesn't even acknowledge the speed issue.

Good to hear at least some response.

Their customer communication seems to be lacking. I was told that our congestion was going to be fixed in October last year. It's February 1st, and the evening congestion still exists. We're getting less than a third of our service, why should we pay more than a third of our bill?

Yeah, and I know they are sick of hearing from me but it's like this, They've never been reliable at keeping their word before so why should I have faith in them now?

Same here in Berkeley County (Hedgesville) starting at about 5pm daily.
Had 3.5 meg service with Verizon just fine, but since Frontier took over am unable to vatch a You Tube or any other vid without constant reload pauses. Speed ests show upload speeds at 690kbps and even lower. Waiting for a new modem, but certain that won't resolve the issue. I believe all the Frontier service trucks between me and Martinsburg, replacing pedistals and cable are the issue. Frontier CS and Tech SVC deny this is the issue, but claim the issue is somewhere in wiring. They refuse to test for wiring issues until the new modem is installed. CS wants to discount my service by a mere $10 per month. I want the speed back, not a discount!!!!

My sister in Huntington stated her DSL was slow. All she uses it for is email and browsing. Her speed test was 550K down and 278 up. It is an issue with Frontier. She never had this problem with Verizon.

My 3.5 service was great with Verizon, then Frontier took over and within a couple months we couldn't watch any movies or vids online. I thought WV was trying to bring commerce into the state, but who would bring their business here without the ability to adequately utilize this technology?

We are listing our house and getting out of Dodge!!!

A new test shows that issues here may be getting even worse. I can't even comfortably browse anymore. This is absolutely ridiculous.

(And I've been getting some test coming out consistently worse than this.)
