Comcast XFINITY TV → [STB] remote control interchangable accross boxes?

In anticipation of receiving a new bedroom HD set (replacing a CRT!), I went to the local Xfinity office to exchange the old box with an HD capable one. I got a RNG110, with a remote that looks a bit different from what I had before and what I have in the living room. The new remote is a lot darker in color but has the same controls.

Just for fun I tried to use the new remote on my living room STB and it wouldn't work.
Both the silver and the gray remotes will operate the RNG110, but the gray one will not operate the DVR in the living room..

Why is this?

different coding in the remotes. Same reason why you'll sometimes see a remote from one Sony TV will work one TV but not the other and a another remote will work both TV's.

Do this to the Platnium remote.

press cable , hold setup till light flashes
enter: 9 8 2
lights will flash
hold setup till flashes
enter: 0 1 3 7 6
lights will flash
hold setup till flashes
enter: 9 8 2

your platnium remote will now do the newer and older boxes.
