Re: remote desktop type support VNC works fine after some modifications for UAC. we use UltraVNC w/ encryption and then run a script after imaging that adds domain admins to its accepted users list so only we can connect to computers.
We use Altiris, however, to manage our computers, deploy images, software, and scripts, and keep inventory. It has a built-in remote app that we frequently use since it doesnt require logging in before connecting, but it's slow, freezes sometimes, and doesnt show alpha blending.
Of course we also use Remote Desktop frequently, and when we dont need to see the user's input or them see ours. |

| reply to mikefxu said by mikefxu:said by liht:I usually create a logmein account under a customers email and add all the PC's in their company to the account (if its only a few...like 3 or 4).
Or I throw links to join.me on their desktop and have them click and run it. Works fine (though slow on older PC's) I use LogMeIn Free for my remote computers and also Join.me Free (a LogMeIn product) for disposable remote access and presentation sharing. Have use differing forms of VNC in the past but LogMeIn works so well especially over statellite Internet connections, I have never looked back or for other options. said by amungus:Recently started using Crossloop Nice that it's free for business use. LogMeIn Free is also free for business usage. » community.logmein.com/t5/Free/LM···-p/41320 X2 on Logmein
Their free product is really incredible.
I also use Ultra VNC's "Single Click" product which is great sometimes... and slow others but either way I use it for PURE simplicity. The client clicks on the link on my site, says yes to "Run?" and yes to the security warning and I am looking at/controlling their PC seconds later... it is as easy as remote gets but like I said the speed can be a problem and it is not as stable as logmein nor does it have as many features. I have the client connect to me with single click and I then setup their machine on my Logmein free account... I almost feel guilty it is so easy and free. -- Mom was right.... I NEED fiber! |

| reply to Modus Are Crossloop and Teamviewer VNC based? I had issues with these at a client that wouldn't allow VNC connections.
Logmein Works though. I haven't had an issue with it getting through any firewall.
I did a search for logmein coupons and got Central for $150 about two months ago. I have about 140 machines running free and even with the naming convention was a hassle. Also, Central lets you grant other people access to specific machines and manage them in groups. The free is all or nothing.
I also use Join.me for training and presentations. I can have 10-15 people watching my screen and I can train them how to do something. I have looked into Rescue, but since can load free on there when I set up their machine it isn't really useful.
I have also used Hamachi since before it was a logmein product, but really liked that they didn't change much. -- -- |

TeamView is not VNC-based as far as I know. It's designed specifically to allow connections even through firewalls, etc. |

| reply to Modus Have you tried the built in "Remote Assistance" in Windows 7. You can enable it to remote in without the user requesting assistance. The only issue is the system you access it from has to be on the same domain or setup domain trust. -- PRescott7-2097 |

| reply to Modus +1 for TeamViewer. I was not involved in the research to purchase this product, but I can say it works very well.
We moved from PCAnywhere to TeamViewer about 1 year ago. We have about 3000+ workstations/laptops. We do have a naming convention which is nice when computers can get on our LAN somehow - easy to connect to that workstation. When workstations are having issues with VPN (but not a general network connection) we can use the TeamViewer ID and connect right in.
This also works well for acquisitions meaning companies we purchase and have no standards in place - we can support the workstations easily with the ID and that new office doesn't have to be on our corporate network.
As far as cost - it's lower then PCA and a few others out there. -- "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke |

 | reply to Modus It is also worth mentioning that LogMeIn (even the free version) supports rebooting into safe mode + remote control, which is really useful for cleaning up malware. |

i know you can go to start, run, msconfig and set it to boot in safe mode, but i didnt realize the free version had another option to do that...?
i have used rescue before and i liked being able to send that command and not have to mess with the msconfig option. |

 | reply to Modus Teamviewer also supports booting into Safe Mode. Recent versions handle the old UAC issues.
If it wasn't so damn expensive or at least had a tiered pricing scheme I'd be a happy camper. |

 | reply to tomdlgns You do it from the website/app, not on the computer you need to control. From the website: Instead of clicking on Remote Control, click Main Menu under the PC name. You will be prompted for login credentials, but after it will take you to a menu page instead of the desktop. Click Preferences - Advanced - View Reboot Options. From there you can click any of the options and it will force the remote machine to do exactly that. The safe mode reboot option brings it up similar to a safe-mode with networking, plus the logmein services. -- Intel i7-2600k /ASRock P67 Extreme4 /4x 4Gb G.Skill /2x Intel 510 series 250Gb SSD /3x WD20EADS 2TB /2x PNY GTX 260 /Silverstone 850W /Custom water cooler /Antec Twelve-Hundred |

i mainly use log me in ignition to connect, so i dont always keep up to date with the options on the web site.
i see logmein ignition has additional options, but i must not be seeing the boot option. |
|
 | Checking this myself and note you must be viewing the computers in "tile View" to see the Main Menu button he is talking about. Other views don't show this. |
|
 | reply to tomdlgns It works from ignition too, just use the main menu link under the name. |
|
 | thanks, i see that now. 99.8% of the time i open ignition and then connect to the PC. i never really looked at those other buttons.
(thankfully i have never had to, yet). |
