Re: [Sci-Fi] Walking Dead, Season 3 news! Good episode but I will miss Shane. I liked the tension and unstableness his character brought to the situation.
I never read the comics but I suspect the Zombie disease lingers inside the bodies until they die and is activated upon death. Which would explain the people coming back as walkers after dying of natural causes. The transformation seems pretty fast tho..
I'm a little thrown off by the sudden zombie invasion that kind of came out of no where. I realize the gun shots from Shane and Carl is what drew their attention but they've shot off guns at the farm before and no walkers were anywhere near to hear it. All of a sudden there's a huge army of them just chilling waiting for a sound to be made?
Next week seems like it will be action packed. Hope they have a good cliff hanger to end it on. I suspect we will see the last of Herschel (sp?) next week. -- "The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't, are both right. Which one are you?" |

| reply to Reno Remember when they used to "gear up" when fighting the dead hand to hand? Gloves, face shields, long sleeved shirts. Then they stopped doing that. I think one of the producers/writers said there just might be consequences for that. Maybe this is it? Another zombie book I read, not walking dead, gave the suggestion that everyone is infected. The only time they turn is if they die, or get bitten by a zombie. This could be the line the show takes. That they are already infected, and once they die they turn. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? Look at Andrea. Right after she got spayed in the face with zombie blood in the camper she went down a dark path. Rick has gotten zombie blood on him and seems to be going dark a bit too. There was him and Shane last night and he fired first on the two guys in the bar.

The guy behind the bar started to reach for his gun before Rick pulled his and shot him. He didn't "technically" make the first move. haha
The infected but not turning until you die seems like the only logical explanation for this all. I'm pretty sure most of the group has had walker blood spray up into their faces at some point or another (except maybe the kids). -- "The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't, are both right. | reply to lotusracer I liked this episode more than any other this season, but the big event that took place was my least favorite thing about the season.
I can't believe Rick killed Shane. I know he was a bit crazy, but he and Dale (also dead) created some tension within the group, and for the most part it was fun to watch. I am glad the Rick/Lori/Shane love triangle is over though.
The dead turning to zombies even though they weren't bitten is a great idea. They could do a lot with that in future episodes. Maybe even a flashback to how the plague spread.
I have no idea where the zombie horde at the end of the episode came from, but at least for the immediate future the farm is a bit less safe. I like that a lot.
But why the hell was Carl wandering out in the field at night? Can no adult on the farm keep tabs on this kid? -- "Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." - H. L. Mencken

 | Haha, one of my friends on FB posted the perfect explanation of Carl. It's a picture but unfortunately I'm blocked from seeing it at work. I'll try to get it up over lunch though. Quite amusing. -- Slydermv--In short.. hookers save lives.

They said something about natural barriers failing such as a creek drying up and so on. It was part of the reason they were trying to fortify the farm in the beginning of the episode as well as putting down any random walkers in the general area.
BTW, I kind of like the beginning when they went all Office Space Printer Scene on that zombie,
.
In the comics, I'm up to volume 4 The Hearts Desire currently, zombies are more active in warmer weather and less active in colder weather. Some zombies are generally more active then others as well.
And everyone who guest it is right. They are all essentially the walking dead. If you die (and it doesnt matter how you die) you will turn into a zombie. The only exception is if you have suffered a head wound similar to that of what would put down a zombie.
Recall that when Rick killed those two men in the bar they both received shots to the head. Therefore, they didnt turn. Some of the people that died earlier in the show though may not be so lucky,
.
For what its worth, in the comic, Carl killed Shane by shooting him through the neck during a confrontation with Rick. They buried him at or near the campsite as he was killed way before they got to the farm. There was a brief stay at a gated community and they eventually landed at a prison. Upon suspicion that death results in becoming a zombie, Rick went back to the camp, dug up zombie Shane and shot him in the head.
Oh one more thing,
.old man Dale and Andrea were having sex,....

No, I haven't read the comics and yes, I've done my best to stay away from spoilers. Same here. I don't even like watching the "Next time on the Walking Dead" after each episode.
