 | Monthly Internet Usage On Cogeco (How much is too much?) What's your average internet usage on Cogeco? I am on Turbo 14 and i always go over and pay the $50 overage charge. I have been averaging 250-350gigs a month but in Dec i was home a lot and i used 530gigs. Their was an older post on this forum regarding "How much is too much" but i want to know has anyone been called by cogeco because they were using too much internet? THe previous post didn't give me an answer to this.
Thanks Guys |

It's too much when they tell you it's too much. Nobody from Cogeco is going to tell you what too much is. It may have more to do with how congested your node is. If you're doing tons of transfers as well as others on your node, and people start complaining they may start looking for the source. If you're the only one and keep it to after hours they may never hear a peep. |

Gone is correct.
IMNSHO, this new policy (as of Oct 2011) might be to discourage folks from sharing a high end plan to save $$, as such high-end plans would be otherwise technologically viable for doing so.
Just say "WiFi", neighbour.

 | Wth happened with the movement to rid us of usage billing ? I honestly don't think that usage billing should go away but I also think that if it is clear that people going over are using more to download legitimate stuff off the net that they paid for then I think ISPs should be more understanding. I really wish there was an open policy with everything in this world cuz the people trying to protect privacy most of the time are just hiding dirty secrets. I honestly wish the people downloading warez every single minute were called out on what they are doing and charged and dealt with. I think usage should be raised for people who are doing legit downloads on the net and if archaic privacy were done away with then I think this would get done. |

There is and always has been a mechanism for discouraging abuse. The AUP clearly states that Cogeco has the right - at their sole discretion - to terminate a connection if cap abuse occurs.
The removal of the UBB limits on the 30 and 50 plans were a cash grab. Period.
You can bet - sure as eggs is eggs - that there were a large number of people caught unawares of the changes and are now saddled with mighty usage bills. Just like tons of folks getting spanked by their first usage bills.
And please remember, all of this is based on the premise that their usage meters are even remotely accurate - when in fact they are so inaccurate and so open to abuse it's obscene. What makes me sick to my stomach is the government lets then get away with this crap. Also obscene.
Mike -- No more UBB... nor more AVP... now it's "Capacity Based". Oh... wait... isn't that what we wanted? |

We've already discussed this very issue. There are a whole slew of reasons why Cogeco will most likely never charge overage fees on business accounts. You're safe to switch. Seriously. |

| reply to ruddypict You can always opt for the Ultimate 50 Business. No cap.
Thought about it myself, but I won't pay the $199/MO they want. I can bond 2 X 25/7 dry loops from a DSL provider cheaper. Just waiting for some of them to start offering FTTN services come Groundhog Day. My agreement with Cogeco ends in May, and if I find something sweet and the math works I might cut it earlier, $75 be damned. I'm curious to see what retentions does when I call to cancel. I'm about $1700/Yr.
