 | [TiVo] [SE PA] Wireless N Adapter Carry or No I noticed in this thread Jason was saying there were internal discussions on whether or not we can rent the Wireless N Tivo Adapters
»Re: [CATV] RCN Tivo availability
I am asking because Wireless G is just too slow to transfer to the Tivo; Gives a Timeout error, and transferring from the Tivo takes forever. I am debating on buying a wireless N Bridge if RCN will not carry the N adapters.
Also if RCN will Carry them does anyone know which bands it supports 2.4 Ghz, and 5.0 Ghz or just 2.4 Ghz? |

We do rent MOCA ECB's as well, which will give you over 100M from point to point. -- Jason Nealis, Sr. Director, Video Product and Video Operations |

In order of preference: Ethernet, then MoCA (ethernet over coaxial cable) then Powerline then well located wired AP extensions and as a last resort, a well located wireless router.

RCN's policy requiring wired HD and offering to support MoCA for those lacking ethernet is pretty sound.
Best of luck to you.

 | Thanks for the response I use Small Net Builder all the time. If the Tivo Premiere supported Gigagbit Ethernet then I would go out and buy the spool of Cat 6 cable and start running wire, but since most devices today do not support Gigabit it would be a waste.I ended up getting an Ethernet to Wireless N bridge. My 5.0 Ghz Band is plenty fast to stream 1080P MKV files from my NAS for awhile now to my LED LCD. So I decided to add the PS3 and Tivo to that network getting rid of 802.11G. Transfers are now a ton better. Transferred a 15GB 2 Hour HD Show to my laptop in TIVO format
Tivo -> Ethernet -> Wireless N Bridge 5.0 Ghz -> E4200 Router -> Laptop on Wireless N 2.4 Ghz
Transfer Time was 35 Minutes. |
