Good internet provider in Montreal

Hi every one, i am new in Montreal, and it's been a moment that I am looking for a good internet provider.
I am essentialy looking for internet connection, and I'm not interested for phone and tv.
I looked on videotron and bell 's website but their prices are little bit to high for me .
I also heard that Colbanet had very bad customer services. Any way i talk to them and I can't have adsl 2+ with them cause to far from the serveur, I will reach 2,5 mb/s. So I have 3 choices left, Teksavvy , Acanac, and RadioActif.
The first two propose internet Cable for good price, especialy Teksavvy .
I was wondering if somebody could help me with more informations and experiences.

Thanks for you respond

If you tell us your general area, then maybe someone in that area might post in here and let you know whether or not DSL might work out for you.

If you decide to go with cable (and an indie), then Electronicbox would probably be the best choice. The indies are now able to drop their Quebec cable pricing by a significant amount (on February 1st), and I think Ebox was the only one to announce new pricing for that. TekSavvy has been totally silent on that, and I don't think Distributel or Acanac has said anything either.

First thanks for you answers guys.
My area code : H4P 1G5

I am thinking to take the cable because I have fear that the area where I am is not really good. Now if someone is near this area and have a good experience with a supplier, I'll be very happy to hear about that.
For Electronic Box I watch the link. Indeed the new prices for SpeedCable 8 HV and SpeedCable Ex 15 seem really interresting.
But I had never heard of them, are they really good? And how is the customer service?

Oh and I forgot to ask if Teksavvy has a good service/quality ?

Ebox is a local compamy and has been around for a while. The staff are great and beacuse they are smaller, they can offer a more personalised service.

oh thanks, very useful link!
But I am surprised because when I asked around me, nobody told me about those two internet providers, while in fact they look really good.
So if I understand correctly, for both Internet providers, the cable come from videotron and Bell's DSL, right?
Do you think that there is a map of bell CO in Montreal?

In montreal, depending on whare you are, the "Central Office" is no longer relevant because Bell has deployed DSLAMs in the neoighbourhood to be near homes.

TO find out what your phone number belongs to, »www.telcodata.us

However, this is only for native telephne numbers. If you have ported your phone, it will be shown as its original location from the original telephone compamy that had that number.

Hmm that site is cool to see where the CO is but is not so useful in determining quality of Dsl service as it shows actual distance as opposed to wire distance, I was under the impression that the only way to tell was with the attenuation on your line stats.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong

People are sheep. The vast majority of people out there don't even know they don't have to get raped by Hell and Videoturd for crappy internet access. This is why those companies have the power they do. People simply keep using them even though their prices and services are completely absurd.

It's sad to say but that's the truth Word of mouth can only take it so far.. those small ISPs need to advertise their low prices a bit more !

I had all of my friends switch over to IISPs. They never looked back. But it is still sad that even young people, who are mostly "on the ball" for most things, had no idea they didn't have to accept Bell's idiotic pricing and were constantly complaining about their 25 GB caps...

For cable electronic box seems the way to go as they are the only one with 2012 tariffs.

For DSL do not forget that it can get expensive as you need to add the dry loop price. In my experience cable is more reliable.

Yes it is the current dilemma, I hesitate between cable and DSL. I just spoke with the technical service from Bell. And they say that if I took the fibe, I will have a good speed. So it seems that the infrastructures near my place are not so bad.

CrazyDoc

@netrevolution.com

So at the end,

Teksavvy : cable is not working for my location , and for dsl the maximum they can offer is 5mb/s.

E Box : Cable / DSL are operational

Avec toute logique, je commence a pencher de plus en plus pour E box....

If you can get B$ell Fibe, then you can probably get TekSavvy's higher speeds (10/1, 16/1, 25/7) as well.

It's not working because you have to change the province first in the upper right corner, otherwise it displays Ontario.

But either way they still haven't published new tariffs for Quebec.

CrazyDoc

@netrevolution.com

no, it's the technical service of TekSavvy who told me that.
