Re: Good internet provider in Montreal

said by CrazyDoc :

no, it's the technical service of TekSavvy who told me that.

Is your address a commercial space? That area (H4P 1G5) does not have may residential addresses as far as I can tell.

If you look at street view, there are some APT's on SAX street, one block down from where google pinpoints the area. Not sure but I think I saw an APT on Sorel street as well... but it could be a converted office now. Hard to tell.

it is also a residential area.

Like I said, it's strange because I have a neighbor on the third floor who's with bell. He has the trio: fiber internet, phone and tv.
And when i spoke with E box tech service they told me that it's ok for the cable and dsl.

So I find it strange that Teksavvy can not offer cable internet.

If Teksavvy cannot offer you cable, nobody else can... All are using Videotron cable! Somtimes Videotron qualification tool had bugs ... I'd say it is serviceable 99.99% sure. Teksavvy most likely will have their new cable prices for QC next week...

Here are the facts: I spoke with the tecnical service of Teksavvy and E. box, and I gave both my zip code, address and even apartment number. And the response was that Teksavvy could provide DSL but not cable. While E. box them were able to provide both.

@videotron.ca

I've seen something like this before in the videotron forum. This is going by memory since it happened 2-3 years ago, but this is what I recall.

There was a guy who wanted TV and internet, Videotron would only sell him business services (yes they sell Business TV as well).

The guy was pretty upset that he had a flat above some business and couldn't get what he wanted. Videotron classified his address as commercial and he couldn't get residential services.

I don't think teksavvy resells videotron business services, or how videotron and teksavvy share info to determine who can get what.

However, this is a possible scenario. Seen it once before.

If Ebox can sell you the service, frig teksavvy and go ebox. End of story.

I used the services of RadioActif for 1 month, and I can tell you, it is terrible. The connection was instable, terrible speed and the tecnical service difficult to contact. In addition to that they tried to keep charging me for the service months after I had asked for the end of the service!
Radioactif est une ordure. Le service est penible. J'ai utilisé les services de Radioactif pendant un mois, l'internet ne marchais pas, et il on intenté me demander de continuer a payer le service des moins après que j'avais demander la interruption du service!

Just noticed your postal code: H4P. Ouch! That area's CO is located very far away! It's no wonder you're having so much trouble!

The only way DSL will work in that area is if you can get connected to a remote DSLAM, which might be possible with one of the new faster tiers now offered by third-party ISPs. Aside from that, your only other choice is cable, and that means using Vidéotron's cable lines.

Have you considered moving to a better serviced neighbourhood?
