[Connection Sharing] Two PCs connected vs a single USB Male A to

I'm going to be plugging in 2 desktops directly to each other vs a single USB Male A to USB Male A in a week or two. I have one desktop directly plugged into a cable modem and want to do a direct USB connect between both desktops so the second desktop can have internet as well. How reliable is this? What can I expect?

why not just get a cheap router and an ethernet cable? easy and painless...saves you the hassle of pulling your hair...

You need a special USB cable to connect two machine, similar to a ethernet cross over cable. Using a standard USB to USB cable may cause damage.

I'll second the suggestion to use a switch and ethernet.
