 | Adding a new SSD I have some money saved up and with the load times I have with BF3, I'm thinking of getting/adding an SSD to my machine. I have a couple questions though about how to go about it. Hoping you guys can help me out.
I just want this to be a gaming drive. I could care less about the speed of Windows. If I add this SSD into my system, what would I need to do to just get the load speed of my games up? BF3 as an example, do I just uninstall Origin and BF3 from my system and then reinstall both of those to the new drive? |

Just don't ever defrag it, and if you post in the hardware forums I'm sure other people could offer some tweaks and such to try. I don't remember a lot of it off hand it's been awhile since I messed with mine. -- Core i7 920 @ 3.5ghz | OCZ Obsidian 6GB 1600mhz DDR3 RAM | EVGA X58 tri SLI-LE mobo | EVGA GTX 570 | Antec 750w PSU | OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD | WD Black 1TB HDD | Antec 1200 Case | G15 keyboard | G9x mouse | G35 Headset | Asus 23" LED-LCD |

Move your page file and temp file location to the mechanical dirve. Install all of your unimportant software and store your data on the mechanical drive. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

 | reply to Dissembled I think we're talking about the same thing Kilroy. I wouldn't be messing with operating system files of any kind on the SSD. I would only even put games on the drive that would benefit from increase read times. Games like BF3 that have large maps that load. |

If you realllly need read times... kinda cant believe that the hdd is the issue (how else is everyone else running this game?) then sure an ssd will likley be very nice to add...
The question (I think) you are asking is specific to origin, I do not know how it works, you will need to get the game on the ssd (duh) but something like steam (I know) you would need to move the steam install location (not just copy the game files) to the SSD, I am not sure if you would need to do the same thing with origin.
If you are *set* on a ssd fine but if not, what is the exact issue?
Also unless you are going for very low cost (small) ssd, I would put the OS on the ssd, else, why get an ssd (imho) |

Also unless you are going for very low cost (small) ssd, I would put the OS on the ssd, else, why get an ssd (imho) I don't have an "issue", I am just thinking I could get much better load times on games. I play a fair amount of BF3 and the load times on those maps are pretty significant.
And as I mentioned, I could care less about how quickly my OS loads or if I can open iTunes in 5 seconds instead of 10. |

| reply to Dissembled I just installed a Crucial M4 just for game files. I only have 1 game on it so far cause its that new. That game loads much faster than before, it used to be on a 10,000 rpm Raptor. -- Last night I saw a naked cowgirl, she was floatin across the ceilin |

Give you an idea of how long it should take and what spending that cash will yield... note they are using a ***very*** fast ssd. |
