| Sure to get a rise on this forum: Red Light Cameras in CT Red-Light Cameras, Red-Hot Debate

| reply to gregamy If it's very expensive and proven not to work time & time again in other jurisdictions, then we're all about it in CT.
Then we can spend another x gazillion to end it once we've figured out it doesn't work here any better than the other dozens of locations where it didn't work.
Expect this one to pass with flying colors.

| reply to gregamy Woman in Funeral Procession Gets Red Light Camera Ticket in North Bay Village "The notorious red light cameras in North Bay Village see all and fine all for running a red light without discrimination, even those who no human traffic cop would dare right up. Like, for example, those taking part in a funeral procession. Yet, the cameras apparently made no exception for mourning, and ticketed a woman taking part in a procession for her late uncle." ...

Numerous studies show they cause more accidents than they prevent. -- I ski at Mount Snow |

I'm going with this forum's righties on this one. It's a really dumb idea that's bound to cause more accidents than it prevents and trouble and cost more money than it 'earns'. Try having live cops enforce traffic laws for a change, instead.
My guess is that having citizens on the political left and right agree that something is a bad idea is what makes corporate shill politicians think it's a good idea. |

| reply to gregamy Very minor point. A very slow safe no one is coming for 6 miles in any direction stop sign or red light rolling right turn saves fuel over picking a 2,000 or more lb vehicle from a full dead stop. I don't have the physics chops to put this into an equation, but I'd be hard pressed to believe the above is wrong. How much fuel saved per vehicle per year? Not a lot, but when you figure x hundred thousand vehicles...
Then again, with fuel taxed by the gallon, who in office wants to actually see any forms of fuel conservation efforts? |

| reply to gregamy Red-Light Cameras A Go â Too Much Green At Stake
Camera creep continues through this session of the General Assembly. A bill authorizing the installation of private vendors' red light cameras at public intersections in the state's larger communities received the approval of the Transportation Committee last month. The legislation and its path showcase everything bad about an especially dangerous junction: where politics, influence and commerce meet money. ...
