My Congressman and his constituents

Last week my congresscritter, Trey Gowdy, held a public information session, which I attended. He is hard-core Tea Party. During the q&a I told him that SOPA was a mistake and should be stopped. He seemed to appreciate the problems with SOPA and gave a very similar reply to the one from the White House.

I think is is important that more people visibly communicate with their representatives that they are opposed to such laws, and that the people are closely watching Congress.

The really sad part was the reaction of the majority of the audience, average age estimated in the 60's. They either had no clue at all, or felt it was a good thing that the government was controlling the internet.

An elderly gentleman accosted me afterwards and said that he had been "hacked" and that if I were ever hacked I would support the government clamping down in the internet. I tried to explain SOPA to him, but it was a lost cause.

Re: My Congressman and his constituents

That is exactly the problem with America too many dum old farts living rich of Social security they donot care what happens to the rest of US. This is not the generation that build america but the parasite generation of the 90's.The only thing they care about is their fat SS checks, was obvious from the banners at Tea party hands off my Socialist checks. If we allow mittens to take charge of SS we'll get rid of this parasite generation much faster.

Kind of depends on your perspective. If you are jobless and homeless, and you are surrounded by snowbird retirees who have a steady income (however small), subsidized medical care, and a place to live, those retirees might seem to be living La Dolce Vita.

when I think of a fat check, I think of going on vacation every year maybe even a few times a year. I don't think of having the bare necessities like you describe.

Then I would venture to guess that you are not unemployed and homeless.

And FWIW, when you are retired, any day you wish can be a vacation day.

Re: My Congressman and his constituents

I hope that I get a fat check when I'm retired but I also hope that SS is somewhere in between a fat check and just the bare necessities.
