Its Jan 16, Where's the rollout?

ViaSat promised new rollouts on Jan 16th. What's wrong?

the EXEDE shows no new activity, and neither does Wildblue (oh, please excuse the lookup tool which has been out of order for 2 months).

There were launch delays, so one needs to obtain information from official channels since older estimations were based upon launch expectations.

ViaSat-1 Launch Scheduled For Mid-October Following Proton-M Configuration Issue

Carlsbad, Calif. – ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has announced that the launch of the ViaSat-1 high-capacity satellite, previously set for the end of September, is now scheduled for mid-October. The delay is due to the launch failure of the Russian Federal Mission with the Express AM4 communication satellite that occurred on August 18.

The OP was right, they just announced last week that the service would launch today. My guess is that you will have to call them for service. They may be doing this in hopes of not getting swamped with new installs. The Fair access policy does show the new limits but their service search website still says it is down so I would give them a ring and ask them about it. I imagine you can get set up that way.

Let's see,

Anik F2 - Slowly progressed across US

WB-1 - Slowly progressed across US

ViaSat-1 - Older launch maps show same as above two birds...spaced out time interval.

Note - OP did not post an official launch map

I get:

We are rolling out service nationwide right now. We plan to be fully launched with exede5 and exede12 services by March 1, 2012. Please note Exede service will not be available in certain limited areas of the US, even after that date.

It appears new customers are taking priority over existing. Existing customers will not get installs done until April.

Are you thinking about dumping your cable provider, and getting ViaSat?

Your recent post elsewhere: 2012-01-11

I had Hughesnet TWICE. I could not wish Hughesnet on anyone. AWFUL! never ever again.
Thankfully, cable came my way, but until then after I dumped hughesnet, I just used a 5gb verizon device...

»ViaSat & WildBlue Launching $50, 12 Mbps Service Next Week

n1581j

@wildblue.net

been hanging on ever since my Wildblue contract expired in November. Never did upgrade from the basic 512kbs package because never came near advertised speed, fastest was half or less even when nowhere near limits of usage and forget tabbed browsing in the evenings. Lets see, yesterday morning I was down to 313 bps using speedtest.net when it finally loaded

Millenicom, now I have 3g coverage in my area is looking more and more attractive depending on WB's caps, I get pretty close to the limit especially when having to upgrade either my windows or linux systems. 18 hour download last time I upgraded Linux and don't talk about windows 7 64-bit which I had to spread over 3 months, 35 hours total download using eMule. It's maybe worth getting the 3g and persevering till 2013 for the 4g upgrade

Now it's new customers first, well thanks a lot WB

I think it depends where your address is. I guess If I would try a zip code on the right side it might be a different date

@wildblue.net

This is the fastest it's been in the latest hour, currently it's back at 337 bytes/s.

So where's the rollout. Something has gotta be better than this... surely, cause I don't think I can wait till March

I thought I saw a chart somewhere that was showing when and where that when was, but I think it was outta date, because it was showing it started the 16th of Dec. 2011. I think things might had been set back a month, oh well

I'm not worried about it, we needed a increased in Bandwidth in this house, so we're not upgrading to a downgraded usage, sure it'll be faster to down load and faster to upload, and faster to Cap, Nor will we recommend anyone to the new package, but will let them know about the Recover Act Addendum

Yes, see this post: »Re: Its Jan 16, Where's the rollout?

Due to conditions beyond ViaSat's control, the satellite's physical launch was delayed, so their dealer information was out of date, which is what was posted....incorrect data that now has different date parameters.

The Viasat-1 roll-out started on the 16th of January but won’t be completed until the 26th of February.

If you are an existing WildBlue customer the upgrades will not be offered, for the most part, until the end of April or May.

Think! When you change to the Viasat-1 you will need a new modem & Tria. (Most of us) That means about 300,000 pieces of equipment has to be made and then installed. Your contract might be over with before you are offered an upgrade. I am sure that new customers will have the highest priority so they can lock them into a 2 year contract.

I am on WB-1 and can only get Windows 7 updates in the middle of the night because during normal hours they fail. (Check out the “Network Management Policy” »www.wildblue.com/legal/network-m···t-policy ) I was hopeful that the new satellite would improve the situation so that I didn’t have to stay up half the night to use the Internet. It looks like I will be waiting a long time before there is any relief from the overloaded WB-1.

We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but no one told us how long the tunnel was and how long it would be before any kind of real relief would be seen. Please don’t hold your breath.

If you can not wait to be upgraded, you can call and see if the a dealer in your area is able to upgrade you. Wildblue is asking existing customers to wait until April and May, if possible, because there are simply not enough installers to handle all the upgrades at once.
