Work around for Clearwire

Is there anyway around getting constantly capped by clearwire while I'm waiting for my new service to be hooked up?

Clearwire is the worst internet service I have ever had. I got better connection speeds in 1995 on dial up. I was more happy with my steady 200kps DSL connection I had out in the country in Missouri in 2000.

I just moved to San Antonio, and my wife signed up for their 'service' through a door to door salesman, and signed the 2 year contract in a rush. She just assumed it would be decent.

We are both so unbelievably frustrated. We don't use P2P, we don't play MMO's or online games. We occasionally watch movies on Zune (maybe 2-3 a week), and download legal music. Now we are always capped at 20-60kbps speeds. So we can sometimes watch a movie in low def, sometimes not.

The worst part is when we called to cancel they removed our cap and we had like 6mbps for like 2 days, then got capped again. Called back and they actually explained that I use too much bandwidth and I am being capped per 'acceptable use policy'. So I read it, and there it is. »www.clearwire.com/legal/acceptab···e-policy

I just signed up for Time warner, and there is no way they could be any worse. We are not going to pay Clearwire a single cent more. They can put the cancellation fee on our credit. And I am writing reviews on Clearwire's crap service.

Ehh, I went and read on the forums some. Apparently I can get a directional antenna and/or not use my service for a while.. That it?

Even after reading your postings, I'm not too sure of your situation. However, if your system is capable of getting 6 Mbps down, then you are luckier than many people! If it's just a matter of not getting capped, then don't get capped! Watch TV on your TV! And 5 or 6 music files/day won't hurt your usage, but 50-- 60 will. It's all a matter of doing it smartly.

I must have my Clearwire because here in the rural area around Abilene TX, there's nothing else. And I love my 2.5 Mbps down -- whether I like it or not!! )

Good luck....

In my opinion your problem is the location, the quality of your signal and the tower you are using. I'm a customer of CLEAR since Dec 2011, so far it has been the best ISP I ever had. I have constantly 12Mb/s DL or more, we are a family of four and we all use the internet intensively. With two daughters I do have a lot of traffic, when I monitor the traffic I can see 5/6 Mbit going on for hours and hours. Sometimes we have 3 of us running Spotify concurrently for hours. One of my daughters doesn't watch TV she watch everything on the internet, ofte in HD. It is pretty evident that if there is any capping etc. I would be a candidate but it is not like that. I know that my tower has lightweight traffic and this can be the only difference.
an external antenna could help you but if your tower is congested you can't invent bandwidth even with an external antenna.
