reply to tp2 I'm not in NYC, but can confirm that you need a TV package. That's incredibly annoying, and apparently TWC is the only provider who enforces this restriction.
You can't even use the 'remote access' function ESPN offers on TWC without a tv package.

It's almost enough to make me go back to ATT.
actually a lot of providers are switching ESPN3 to the subscription requirement as their contracts are coming up for renewal such as comcast recently but I do not know if they made ESPN3 content only available with expanded basic subscription I do know that the viewing of live ESPN requires expanded basic on any provider that carries the live content from Buzzer Beater/Goaline, ESPN, ESPN2 and I think ESPN News.
