| [Sci-Fi] Alcatraz So the premiere's tonight, 2 hours special from 8-10PM. They're putting J.J. Abram's name over it all, but he's only the executive producer. He neither wrote or directed any episode.
It's mostly the same crew that was behind Lost. That's why I'm not going to watch it for now.
Who wants another six seasons of constant intrigues and ZERO F***ING RESOLUTION? I'm still wondering what those frickin' glyphs in the hatch were, why someone would ever paint a map revealed by blue lights, and whatever the hell was up with that statue.
Sarah Jones is pretty hot, but Jorge Garcia? Maybe if he lost 250lbs he'd be more likable, he's an average actor already, I don't see what the producers see in him.
In spite of it all, the concept has me intrigued. I'm hoping it's good. |

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | I'm going to give it a shot. I'm sure I'll regret it though. It's almost rare for a show like this to have any kind of plan other than season 1. LOST was pathetic. Actually it was like the Skyrim of TV shows - amazing beyond belief at first but by the end everything is horrid.
Much more looking forward to the return of Justified tomorrow night.

 | reply to TigerLord I just can't get over how much of a horrible cop the main character is.
She let her partner get killed and when one of the main antagonists pointed a gun to her face she almost let her self get killed |

| reply to TigerLord I was bored so I'm passively watching it, but so far they just raise more questions.
I never watched lost, but after kind of watching fringe it really seems they will never, I repeat never be able to end it well. There is just far too much to explain, and the ratings are slipping. Fox is not a friendly network to shows which cannot be rerun out of order if their ratings are slipping, like how they delayed fringe for weeks during the holidays which will only make the rating drop even more, instead only airing reruns during this time.
This reminds me of Brimstone combined with Fringe, and I really don't plan on watching, however I really don't watch that much tv in the first place, including the fox lineup. | Kitchen Nightmares is a decent show. By that I mean it shows a successful Business man, coming in and mentoring a failing business.
Hell's kitchen, damn, I wish I had the cooking chops to try to get on there. Being able to get trained in a high pressure environment by one of the world's greatest chefs. I've worked at fast food joint where you faced a lot of pressure. From staffing shortages to running out of inventory, to some barbie eating, then purging her food on the ladies room bathroom floor during a rush.
But your right, those two shows will be around longer then any scripted show on fox. Mainly because they are cheap vs the cost of a scripted show. Heck, I'm willing to bet American Idol costs fox more then Hell's kitchen and kitchen nightmares combined.
This season So you think you can dance has been shortened as well. Before it was a 2 night show per week, lie American Idol, now they are just a 1 night a week show. Which seems to look like Fox may chop that show.
I watched Alcatraz, and the one thing that kept circling my brain is, "I've heard this music before". The background music sounded a lot like Fringe's/Lost background music. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? | reply to TigerLord I thought it was pretty good.
Is it just me, or does Fox love the "hot FBI Agent/Detective investigating the unusual" genre?
They had a hit with The X-Files, and Fringe is still great, but what sets Alcatraz apart?
I'll keep watching, but I hope they can do some different things with the show.
Also, Lost was great TV , apart from the reluctance of the show to answer questions in a timely manner. -- "Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." - H. L. Mencken

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | reply to TigerLord I thought it was horrible and won't watch again. The main actress can't act very well and the whole overdone "my partner died and I'm angry" back story made me gag (seriously how many movies and TV shows have used that?).
I really like Jorge Garcia though... I'm a bit sad about it sucking and missing seeing him act. |

The premise is a little weak but sometimes some shows need to develop. |

| reply to TigerLord Well, I had a little mini-marathon yesterday and watched all four eps. Was enjoyable and knowing full well going into it that it might end up with ZERO F***KING RESOLUTION, I can still enjoy it.
I'll stay tuned but it won't necessarily be at the top of my "must see tv" list
(And yes, it reminds me a bit of Brimstone as well; here's hoping the "big mystery" unfolds at a decent pace without completely unraveling ) |

| If it's anything like Fringe they'll reveal one big event that will somehow be the catalyst for everything happening, but it might not be until the end of the first season. Then they will continue to use this event as a loose premise for more filler episodes.
In Fringe the crossing of a barrier of universes caused a fracture in both universes, which they attributed to the majority of the events on the show, which included things like the rules of physics changing, and other bigger events like the possibility of one or more of the universes collapsing. Then they pulled a Bill & Ted time travel story where somebody a previous time cycle built a machine in the future, then sent it back in the past so you never saw the first cycle, and this machine was supposed to save both universes. I just have a thing against how badly written most stories involving time travel are written. Then they continued the story further where somebody who wasn't supposed to exist now existed, and.... who the hell cares. At least it's not doing so well on the rating anymore, and was sent to friday night to die. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. 1 edit | reply to TigerLord this show would be a lot more interesting, and even humorous, if they spend more time on how past time inmates are able to cope with modern times enough to resurface and commit crimes.
I watched the first 2 episodes and already lost interest. I never had the patience for LOST past the first 2 episodes either, so maybe it takes a certain type of viewer to appreciate all this.
I do enjoy Fringe, even though this dual universe season with Peter from another reality can be a challenge. my guess is he'll never get back, but will simply reestablish the same relationships he enjoyed back there, just here in his current pair of universes.
I'm mostly curious to see how Olivia does NOT have to die, it must have something to do with Peter's appearance, since the observers don't seem able to account for that in these Universes. Peter has not laid out for Olivia that she may be able to jump Universes naturally (her current headaches) so maybe that's how she ultimately escapes whatever fate the observers are seeing. now that Peter and Walter are collaborating, that increases the chances they both can help her learn to Universe jump. |
|
 | The headaches seem to be linked to Nina gassing and knocking her out. |
