RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | Game of Thrones eh, too early for a season 2 thread and the season 1 thread is to old to reply to (pardon):
I watched the season one and am a few chapters into the first book.
Question (if anyone knows): Is there a reason why a Stark must always be in Winterfelll or is it just a motto or general rule for maintaining control of Winderfell?
Looking around I saw a couple of comments about a ghost and something about anyone other than a Stark will cause a horrible tragedy (to them or other??)... just curious.
PS. Price Joffery reminds me of a male version of Nelly from Little house on the Prairie. Also, (lol) it took me 3 shows to recognize the queen as the lady from Terminator (the voice sounding so familiar was driving me crazy - stupid long blonde hair threw me off bad). |

As to Ghost, that is Jon Snow's direwolf. Which (the wolfs) carry a lot more of the plot in the books than on the screen. If only a few chapters in you might not be to where they are found so I'll leave it at that.
Hehe, good call on prince joffery. |

.) to admit or imply you used to watch Little House on the Prairie so my hat is off to you good Sir,
..or Madame
Id like to get around to actually reading Game of Thrones. Right now I am reading The Hunger Games via a Kindle Fire and the free Lending Library.
Lena Headey, yes she is quite the accomplished actor and fairly attractive IMO too. She was also in the movie 300 where she did a nude scene,

I think it has to do with the old system. Before there was one throne to rule them all, there were many thrones. Stark used to be king of the north. Hence it became his house's duty to over see the North wall and protection from the dangers from the other side. Other the years, the rest of the kingdom stopped sending troops/criminals to the wall, because it was a long time since they last had trouble. I think he tried to base the series on the way the Royalties of Europe were. The Royalties were all related due to the practice of using daughters as tokens of treaties.
I have read all but the current book in the series. When it hits the paper back section then I'll buy it. I'm surprised no one is up in arms over the author having young teenagers in sexual situations. Granted the TV series wont have that, but the talk of first moon blood is all about a young girl getting her period. And in his books, there is at least two girls that get married as soon as they have their moon blood. Meanwhile the books of Gor are still black listed because of the way John Norman wrote about women as being slaves and how they should be treated. The Gor book's were decent Sci-fi fantasy, though the author did ramble on about things. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?. |

I see no shame in watching Little House on the Prarie lol. I guess that was kind of my childhood (coming off all the Bonaza re-runs too). Heck I even watched the Touched By An Angle show because Michael Landon was in it.
I had to resist getting a Kindle Fire for reading. Still with my e-ink Kindle. I can't get on the eye-straining 60hz LCD backlit and low battery life band wagon. My wife loves hers though. I mean the whole point of eReaders was eInk having the same eye strain level as a normal paper book. It's just weird to me that some people will place "color" over practical. Nice $200 tablet though. My only complaints from trying it are the lack of dedicated volume buttons and the lack of a microSD slot. Well, I thought it felt way too heavy also though. Like it felt like it had much more weight than larger tablets I've used. I'm guessing the next "Fire" will be much improved or they'll have more than one version.
So far I'm actually amazed at how close the TV show is to the first book. The only thing that really stands out is the age difference in the children (like everyone was bumped up 5 years). |

OctaveanPremium,MVM join:2001-03-31 New York, NY kudos:1 | LOL, it was just some good natured messing around (although I really do dislike those shows),
.
My exposure to shows like Little House on the Prarie, Touched By An Angle, and so on was actually unwilling. I have two older sisters of whom loved that stuff and they dominated the sole TV with an iron fist when we were growing up.
Left to my own devices I would have only watched shows like Bat Man (Adam West) as well as cartoons (Battle of the planets, Speed Racer, Hercules, Spider Man the Teen Titans and so on) and scifi (BattleStar Galactica, Star Trek, Space 1999, Lost in Space and so on),
.nothing more, nothing less. Admittedly I was a willing participant in shows like I Dream of Jeannie and Wonder Woman because Barbara Eden and Lynda Carter were crazy hot
Lol,
.good times, good times,
..
BTW, I also did NOT like shows like Good Times, Welcome Back Kotter, Different Strokes, The Facts of Life, Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Mash, The White Shadow,
..and so on.
Kung Fu, Mr Magoo, Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse, Woody Wood Pecker, Tom and Jerry, Heckle and Jeckle and so on were all cool with me though,

In my case the Kindle Fire was borrowed from a family member that doesnt much use it,
.at all. I was thinking of buying one for my Wife as we already have Amazon Prime but she claims not to want one. That didnt stop her from reading our last free downloaded book in less then a day though. |

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | I'm about 90% identical to you on TV show taste. Check on I Dream of Jeannie and Wonder Woman for the same reason.
I'd love more shows like GoT though. I swear it feels more like you're watching a movie than a TV show (the sets, acting, etc - even the sound quality). |
