Network traffic recording/playback

Is there some piece of software that would allow someone to record *all* network traffic over a given segment, and then 'play it back' later, or somewhere else on a similarly configured network?

I understand that many IP addresses may be unique to the original segment, and may not be, or may not easily be duplicated somewhere else at a different time, so I'm looking for the best, or closest approximation.

I've used sniffers in the past (nothing recently, though) and I know that they can do the recording, but I don't remember any playback functionality.

TIA

So how would you envision the playback working? TCP conversations are two way and a playback would be one-sided.

Depending on what your expectations are... tcpdump and tcpreplay. I use both regularly. (I'm replaying traffic to sniffers and the like... things normally connected to a physical tap or span port)

Yes. It's a bit expensive and not for home use. Riverbed has a product that does just that. From the wireshark folks, product is called Riverbed Cascade Profiler and Riverbed Shark. Riverbed Shark captures ALL/Full packet sizes and is able to go back in time and replay what video you were watching, or replay the voip convo... Or anything that's transmitted over the wire it captures.
