Re: New DSL and CABLE price comparison Quebec starting february said by GeorgeK :Hi, buy the way, are you providing your customers with static IP? If not, is it possible to purchase it from you? Why pay to get a static IP while its free to get a no-ip.com account or other services like that ? |
|
 | I have some old equipment (videophone) which is using IP to address a call. |

 | said by GeorgeK :I have some old equipment (videophone) which is using IP to address a call. isnt it cheaper to change that old equipment instead of paying $5 or $10 a month to get a static ip ? |
|
 | Ok (about static IP), the points are: 1. Video phone is not working by itself, it works with other similar devices. To replace it it means to replace all 7 of them (in my case) which I am calling to 2. Some companies as Acanac and so on are giving up 1 free static IP. Which is already alerting ... 3. Why not.... |
|
 | reply to GeorgeK Yes Static IP is available for an additional cost, please call office during business hours for complete details. Just for your information TPIA IP rarely rotates, TPIA provides specific number of IP's to Videotron for specific area to be passed on to client, we have customers with dynamic IP's having the same IP for last 2 years. |

jfmezeiPremium join:2007-01-03 Pointe-Claire, QC kudos:22 | A decision on static IPs for TPIA is due this coming week. It is not available at the moment and ISPs cannot control when an DHCP lease might change, when the cable company does a node split etc, nor do they get advance warning of such event. |

 | said by jfmezei:A decision on static IPs for TPIA is due this coming week. And that decision will most likely echo the technical committee's conclusion that the ISPs' only way is to do IP-over-IP on their own rather than depend on the cablecos since they ruled out pretty much all other options as either imposing an excessive burden/cost to cablecos, not achieving the goals or not economically viable. |

| reply to BigBenBeaub Acanac has released full prices for DSL 6, 12 and 16 Mbps. »acanac.com/DSL.html
Also worth noting, they have a 12 Mbps plan in Quebec. It is in fact a 16 Mbps plan with rate limiting to 12 Mbps (6 Mbps during peak hours). So unlike other ISPs, they don't have any plan based on the 10 Mbps profile.
All plans are unlimited, with the downside being that they only allow half download speed at peak hours. |

upload speed will not be affected !
take a look at this post »Re: Velcom, Acanac, price change, when ? |

zorxd join:2010-02-05 Quebec, QC | Well on their web site it's clearly written 7-12pm. However I believe that it will be intelligently implemented according to needs. |
|
 | That is correct. The rate limit's will only be implemented on a as needed bases.
During the majority of the peak usage hours you may only be rate limited by one or two Mbps if at all. |

 | acanac released cable prices could someone add them to document |

It's the only place where we can see them, they're not on their website yet(acanac.ca or .com)
Don't forget if you don't want to pay for the whole years, you have to use the month price not the one for 1 year. |
