Mikrotik Simple Queues Issue

Trying to use a 12Mbps down by 12Mbps up simple queue by IP.

Wide open I have 20mbps available. With the above queue I get 9Mbps down by 8mbps up fluctuating....

If I disable the upload portion of the queue I hit 12Mbps exactly on the down every time.

Anyone else have this issue ?

Is there a more accurate way to set up the queues? I really need to cap the upload.

I think I may just have to set up two separate Simple Queues for the same IP.

One with only upload checked.

The other one with only download checked.

I bet this will work correctly, I'll test.....

Nope no dice.

With upload only checked and set to 12Mbps I get 8Mbps, weird.......

These queues seem to function improperly.

Anyone ever pinpoint any issues with their mikrotik qos on package levels between 3-20 Mbps?

are you creating a separate queue for out bound and one for inbound? Which queue type are you using (pcq, pfifo, etc)? What interface are you using global-in, global-out ?

THere is (or was) an issue with the Linux kernel which caused this kind of issue with squid proxies a few years ago (say six or seven years ago). There were changes in the settings you had to make in /proc ... Sadly I don't remember them other than it had to do with the number of IPv4 connections that had to be set to fix it... but then I am old and stupid and I have to flush my brain every night so that I can remember tomorrow.

Once we IPv6 enable every device on the Internet we will have toasters, baby monitors, and security cameras joining the bot nets which today are populated only by idiots that can not refrain from clicking, "Yes I would like to see those titties..."
