Re: Ban the Check Engine Light While I agree, cars should display the ODBII without a reader. As it was said cadillacs and chryslers do this. But a reader is about $25, so I agree that the writer of the article is a "whiny retard". It is no different than complaining as GM did not duct tape a wrench to your car for when you needed it. I have used my reader only on friends and families cars, now in dec I was driving on a long road trip. My light came one morning. I pulled over, checked it. It said O2 sensor so I cleared it and went on my way. I dont see how that is so dam hard.
Now the issue I have with our car computers is the mfg does not give customers full access to the codes/command required to control all the functions of your car and to troubleshoot them. That certainly needs to change. I should be able to function any value, test any sensor, any motor, circuits, etc on the fly just like anyone with a $10,000 mfg scantool can do,but with a $30 OBDII to USB attachment to my computer. It is not right we customers do not get access to all the necessary diagnostic functions. I'd sign a petition for this. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. | | | reply to thegeek said by thegeek: if someone can afford to spend $30k on a new car then an extra $500-$1k isn't going to break them. Why should I pay $1,000.00 for something I don't want or need. I already have a $5,000.00 scanner that will tell me and do everything I need.
As I stated before, the majority of the consumers do not give a shit so why FORCE the added cost onto everyone. Just like Stability Ride Control, which will be mandatory on every S.U.V. because a few morons don't know how to drive, why should I have to pay for something just because a few morons are to lazy to figure something out on their own. -- mbsastronomy.com | |
