Re: Bag bans and recycling said by dogma
I did assume you never did anything to get the GS to "ban" their cookies. Again, I fall on my sword. However, perhaps you didn't go far enough? Why not advocate for ALL children? You would be the perfect person for this. But it takes time and effort and ... commitment to a just cause. It can't be done in front of the TeeeVee, or on the Internet. It dang-sure can't be done without severe unintended consequences by the government.
One thing you didn't mention in your post; Do you, or do you not agree with my idea about having the GS migrate from selling cookies to selling reusable grocery bags? [/BQUOTE :And you never said what you have done.
You sir are trolling me and it is very unbecoming.
You have NO idea who I am or what I do, I happen to be an very vocal and proactive advocate for children, ALL children. I have worked in schools, volunteered in many organizations and have personally taken children who had nowhere else to go into my house and supported them fully without any financial aid at all. I feed homeless kids that I see outside on the sidewalk in front of restaurants trying to scrounge up enough for a small meal, I take them home and let them take showers and wash their clothes, if I could mother every single one of them I would, but I can't so I do what I can in the ways that I can.
I don't owe you any explanations, I don't owe you a thing as a matter of fact, you see a ban on a plastic bags as something to rally against the government for while I see it as the best thing for the environment.
You want to throw everything in the mix for drama but you have chosen the wrong person to challenge, I know my life is dedicated to helping others and to lending my voice to those who have none or are being drowned out in the cacophony of strife and disenfranchisement's constant din.
You want a pat on the back for thinking up something different for the GS to sell, well tough luck because I don't care what they sell, I still wont buy it. |

As I pointed out (obviously very poorly) previously, I am not challenging you on any level other than what was explicitly stated in my post regarding banning plastic bags and alternatives for the GS.
So we are going to disagree on the best method to resolve the plastic bag issue and I won't pursue it with you further. Hopefully you understand my position as I believe I understand yours. And I guess the whole GS thing totally off the table for you.

To actually address your question; I never gave my role in the usage of plastic bags serious consideration until I read your linked story. So if nothing else, you made a difference with someone today. |

And as a SCUBA diver I can tell you first hand the one thing I've seen that causes the most harm to sea life is abandoned fishing nets. As I stated above, I ride a motorcycle, and the store I can still get the plastic bags from gets my business. |

Easiest solution is to use biodegradeble bags, not quite as strong, but no.... they banned them all. Do we go back to not lining our inside and outside garbage cans with plastic bags? I remember cleaning maggots out of cans when I was a kid, loved plastic liners when they came around.
I was near a safeway with a bag ban, waited and came to my local Safeway to get bags at the checkout. I still put my soiled napkins and pizza boxes in the green can, recycle all bottles and cans, use reusable water bottles where I can etc. I just don't carry a reusable bag in every vehicle, but will need to do so on a VOLUNTARY basis. |
