1 edit | IPv6 World IPv6 Launch (6/11/2012) - Verizon too? Reference(s)
»June 6: World IPv6 Launch
So...
#1 When is Verizon going to sign-up and have IPv6 enabled on their main website?
#2 Will you will enable IPv6 for enough users so that at least 1% of your wireline residential subscribers?
#3 Please don't forget about us users who are on DSL. I believe this should not be limited to your FIOS offering(s). -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. |

| I wonder what percentage of Verizon customers even have an IPv6-capable modem? My ActionTec GT704WG certainly isn't. There are an untold number of places that still have Westell 6100 modems (or older!) in place. Replacing all of them with IPv6 equipment would not be an easy undertaking, especially considering that VERY few users would have a clue what IPv6 even is.
I think that the changeover is going to be a long, slow process. The solution will also have to still provide IPv4 is many homes. I doubt that my 5-year-old 24-port switch supports v6. I know that my even older Linksys switches don't support it. My ancient media streaming devices (Hauppauge Media MVP's) don't support it. I just checked the fairly new Vizio internet-connected TV and see no settings for IPv6. So IPv6 on the WAN side is fine, but like most people, I will still need IPv4 on the LAN side for many years. |

| About switches/hubs.
As addressed on »test-ipv6.com/faq_whyipv6.html
quote: Your ethernet switch / hub: No. It is unaware of IP; it works at a lower level on the local network.
Unless your switch/hub is IPv4 aware, I would not be worried about it supporting IPv6.
How to know if your hub/switch is IPv4 aware?
Check the manaul / user's guide for it.
If you can't find the manaul / user's guide for it, ask for help finding it.
If you can't find the manaul / user's guide for it and after asking for help finding it, and they can't find it: Does the device (switch) have a web based UI or for that telnet (command line based) control?
If not, it is not IPv4 aware.
If it has a web based UI / telnet control, it is IPv4 aware. -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. |

 | reply to aefstoggaflm Current Verizon modems (Actiontec & Westell) Are not IPV6 ready.
However Verizon is already testing a new D-Link modem (DSL-2750B) That modem should be IPV6 friendly like most new D-Link devices by the time Verizon decides to jump on the IPV6 Boat, not enough info on dlink.com at the moment. |

1 edit | said by Crookshanks:If you use bridge mode does it matter if the modem speaks IPV6? Just to clear when you said bridge mode, you did not mean routed bridge as Verizon tells you to at »www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHel···3709.htm at step 8.
At »Verizon Online DSL FAQ »How do I use a router with the Westell 6100? is how to put your modem in bridge mode, correctly.
I know what you asked, but I suspect you met to say..
said by Crookshanks:If you use bridge mode does it matter if the modem does not speaks IPV6? As far as I know, no not now.
Some day in the future, it will have to support IPv6 even while it is in bridge mode.
--
Reference(s) info on how to get into the modem combo while it in bridge mode (IPv4).
#1 I have heard/read that: If on PPPoE, if the RJ-45 WAN port router's WAN port is connected to the LAN port of the modem combo, and you have two seperate subnets - you might notice the issue that the OP of »[modem/router] How to access 6100G's interface while connected? noticed.
#2 I have heard/read that: If on PPPoE, if you have a RJ-45 WAN port router that does not have only one RJ-45 LAN port, you could do the same fix for the OP's problem. Direct link »Re: [modem/router] How to access 6100G's interface while connect
#3 I will repeat some info that I posted in »Access to modem combo while in bridge mode
quote: Before I got a Static Public IP, I was on PPPoE. However my RJ-WAN port router was set to "Keep Alive", so I never noticed the issue that the OP of »[modem/router] How to access 6100G's interface while connected? saw.
If I ever go back to PPPoE (it does not have to be on Verizon), I can try to see if that it is true.
Also I can then check the fix on how to get into the modem combo while another router is handling PPPoE without adding more hardware (ex a hub/switch between modem combo and router), without loading DD-WRT/Tomato, without changing to Static IP with-in the same subnet (PC OR Router Level) - the post by wayjac (user #544732)
As to what I suspect, I have this odd feeling what the OP started off with and wayjac (user #544732)'s fix are correct.
#4 If not on PPPoE (DHCP/Static), see all of the possible fixes that are addressed in »Access to modem combo while in bridge mode . For example this one ( direct link »Re: Access to modem combo while in bridge mode )

Why is that? Doesn't it basically act as a dumb modem in bridge mode, passing packets from your device onto the ATM network? If your device speaks IPv6 why would anything else be required? |

#2 Some day in the future, there will be equipment that does not support IPv4.
