All I can think of is all the people who have wanted HDnet added to there cable/sat/Fios system. not no more. Which is why will get it. Comcast has a knack of delivering new channels no one has ever heard of or wants. Probably because a lot of these polished turds give themselves away for free until they prove themselves ratings worthy, like the Oprah Network. |

 | reply to scanpa I can't believe this is happening. HDNet was one of my favorite channels--and the only reason I subscribed to Comcast's digital preferred package. Oh well, I guess I can save $15 a month now.
It's really sad that Cuban would kill his network that's become known for FANTASTIC in-depth journalism (Dan Rather Reports & HDNet World Report) & HD syndicated shows (Arrested Development until 2009, among others) just to become yet another lifestyle network (which will be wasting our precious HD bandwidth). As another poster put it, this is quite a kick in the @ss to all the supporters that begged Comcast to carry HDNet. Absolutely none of those people give a damn about a Ryan Seacrest network. |

Agreed. But it's all about the $ and the viewership. Cuban feels he can get more eyeballs, more distribution and more eyeballs with this approach. |

from looking into news about HDnet over the last few years, it seems alot of MSO have dropped the channel.

It's more economics, like the OWN channel was given to Comcast virtually for free, with the understanding, if it had high ratings it would cost Comcast in the next contract. HDnet wanted money for their channel, but when it becomes AXS, or whatever it will be called, they'll give it away to get it in more homes and hope it gets enough ratings to make Comcast pay for it in the next contract. Why we don't have Chiller and Sleuth, channels now owned by Comcast is beyond me, but we will end up with this metro-sexual mess, I'm sure. |

| What you said makes sense, and I still think the guy is an idiot because of the fact that we're not getting the channels now owned by Comcast. But then again I guess the same "is he drunk" curiousity could be applied to whoever made the decision to reformat HDNet's content, and to maybe take it a step further, what the hell was wrong with the guy Comcast hired that reformated TechTV. |

actor90Never a dull momentPremium join:2003-07-21 L.E.H.T., NJ | TechTV's destruction was pure hate on the part of Charles Hirschhorn. He got Comcast to acquire channel, to destroy it. |

OWN used to be Discovery Health. If they had actually reduced the carriage fee to nearly free, you'd think Comcast would have moved it to Starter? I'm guessing they assumed it would be a big hit and kept the fees high, if not raised them.

Comcast already carries HDNet in many areas, although usually as part of Preferred I think. |

 | OWN didnt used to be Discovery Health, Discovery merged Fit TV with Discovery Health to create Discovery Fit & Health. Comcast and other carriers simply reused the channel space for OWN. |

andyrossPremium,MVM join:2003-05-04 Schaumburg, IL | Either way, I think Discovery Communications still 'owns' the channel in some form, similar to NatGeoWild and Fox. At the minimum, they are the authorized distributor for the channels. |
