Dlink DIR-825 "Guest Mode" does not get Internet acces

I have a Comcast business class Modem/Router (SMC-8014). I have attached a Dlink DIR-825 wireless router from one port on the SMC-8014 to a local port on the DIR-825 (not the Internet port) and disabled the DHCP server in the DIR-825. I have set the IP of the DIR-825 in the range of the DHCP on the SMC-8014. I can connect with a laptop to the wireless and get an IP address and access to the Internet.
However, when I connect to the "guest zone" feature in the DIR-825 with security turned off (no password), I can connect but I do not have Internet access. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance for any help or support.

Re: Dlink DIR-825 "Guest Mode" does not get Internet a

Hi there Craig..
Just to clarify, I doubt its a business class modem-router but hey I could be wrong.

In any case, from what I gather you connected in your DIR825, Lan port to Lan port with the SMC and set it up correctly to be a SWITCH/AP. In other words it no longer does routing.

I would say inherently the only way the guest network can be utilized is if the device is being used as a ROUTER. You may want to read the manual(UG) carefully in this regard.

Other than that there may be some DNS settings in the DIR that need to be adjusted, but I have my doubts.

Just for giggles, turn dhcp back on, let the DIR act as a full router on your network (attach the LAN port on the SMC to the WAN port on the DIR (and give the DIR a WANIP etc that matches up with the LAN outputs of the SMC (much like you did for the lan settings when it was simply an AP switch) and this time ensure your DIR LAN setup is different from the SMC. Yes you will have a double nat situation, PCs not all on same lan etc.. but you can test the guest network......
(in this scenario all the DIR pcs will be able to access the SMC pcs but not the reverse.)
