| Something new (electrical) While at the supply house, I saw a funny looking display receptacle on an endcap. This is pretty cool: »www.cooperindustries.com/content···740.html
I found these on a search. They look preferable to the Cooper product, and are available in TR as well. I can't find them locally though. »fastmac.com/usocket.php -- ...because I care. |

matt5 join:2001-10-06 Lagrangeville, NY 1 edit | reply to nunya Just nerding, the first cooper sockets will not charge stuff as fast as a wall charger, 700ma is not bad, but not full power for alot of usb charged devices.
For example my usb charger for my smart phone is 850ma @ 5.1v, and it is a lower end phone and it has died while charging via PC (max 500ma)
Kinda of putting you underpowered with something new, however still, kinda at it being made and cool!
Edit: Asked a buddy with a higher end phone out of my own curisority, his charger is 1000ma @ 5v |

How much were they? If I find one in the store, I'd probably buy it as well. |

It would be interesting to know what devices need 2.1 amp @ 5 volt? Maybe a laptop? That would be quite a charging rate for a small device generating a lot of heat in the device. |

The iPad is the tablet, the iPod is the music player small screen thingie.
The iPad is well known for being power hungry. In fact it wouldn't even charge on some earlier Mac Pros. It would charge on later Macs though. On many PCs including laptops it wouldn't charge either. USB spec only calls for 500mA. |

Hope it's not a code violation.
On second thought, maybe not. I was hoping I'd get one with a double gang face... or at least provision for one. hmm. Maybe the cooper one would be better for my kitchen. |

netboy34 join:2001-08-29 Kennesaw, GA kudos:1 | reply to nunya I have the fastmac/think geek outlet, and I will say this is a device that I wish I had come up with. Looks like they took a Leviton outlet, created this USB pack that has the port and circuitry in a case that is attached to the backstabbing spots. So I guess one upside is you are required to wrap the screws to install the outlet. Then heat cut the faceplate to allow the USB plugs through. The cooper one looks nice but losing a plug might be a deal breaker to some.
I just wish they had a GFCi version for my kitchen since the only good place would have to replace the existing one |

I used my daughters IPAD when I was in the hospital. I hated the darn thing. It was not a substitute for a laptop. |
