| I happen to really like George Will so just had to read this article. I thought it was terrific, especially his last thoughts. In that I also know someone who, for a job which included photography on County land, was arrested and put on a list with the FBI, I actually got a kick out of it. To read, all too often, articles about my hobby and those of others being a no-no and the reactions to which law departments will go, makes me laugh. In today's society and with today's tools, it's laughable to get so bent out of shape and not know how to tell the difference of those who are terrorists and those who are not. We just cannot continue to over-react in so many instances of our daily lives. -- JKK

| said by EGeezer:The so-called conservatives are finally realizing that individual freedoms and violations of individual constitutional rights are not just a "liberal" issue. They have never been a liberal issue for me, EGeezer . I am a lifelong conservative (well, except for my angry young man period in the 70's). For me, freedom and liberty are the basic defining values of America. And I largely blame the so called "neo-cons" for many of the messes we find ourselves in, now.

"I enforce the law"
But instead subscribe to the ideology of:
"I AM THE LAW"
Fortunately, they are in a minority in most places. -- Best of luck

roc5955Premium join:2005-11-26 Rosendale, NY | In my dealings with law enforcement, (I maintain their PCs) I have found that it is not a minority of officers, but a little more than half of the officers who do not believe that they don't have to obey the law, because they are the law, and selectively enforce the law, according to their whims. I guess it's different in different areas of the country, but I deal with them every day, and am surprised that that they haven't arrested me for something obscure. Perhaps it's because I keep their damn computers running, after they screw things up. -- "Understanding is a three-edged sword." |

Tim So do I. The people who have hijacked the name have turned it into the very thing people like Buckley opposed. |

In my opinion a good solution, though it will never happen, would be to force the offending officer to read The Boy Who Cried Wolf in the squad room with his peers present, the embarrassment and heckling he would receive would be enough of a deterrent to prevent such a malfeasance from being repeated. In reality, having a person placed on such a list as a form of harassment is falsifying a record or report, which in most states is a criminal matter and if convicted could land an officer in jail or at the very least de-certified for life. Down here we just sent a former Hollywood PD officer to prison for falsifying a report, and it wasnt that many years back a number of Deputies where de-certified and a couple of administrators fired over the Power-Track scandal, again for falsifying records.

Personally I love how LEOs think a person with a tripod is terrorism scouting, I mean I know terrorists are not the brightest lightbulbs in the box but id imagine they would know enough to use a phone camera or a cheap ass P&S rather than setup in the open with a tripod. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |
