| [NCAA-B] Basketball team loses by 102 »sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the···426.html
Saw this pop up on yahoo yesterday when I was at work. Didn't pay much attention until I went home to ESPN to hear them say Toccoa Falls College. I was like oh my I graduated from there. I sorta feel bad for them haha. But the talent level is a huge gap as my school does not recruit nor have scholarships. The school is roughly only about 1000 students. During my time there I was a gym rat and played basketball there pretty much everyday. I wasn't D1 talent or anything but I ran with the team once and put up 14 points as we were only playing to 21 (points by 1 and 2). I was like dang ya'll should just put me on the team. I find it humorous that is all. |

| From the link:

Indeed. Ticket revenue can be collected from any opponent, and I'm not sure how anyone benefits or learns by playing an opponent where it's a certainty you're going to win or lose by at least 50 points.
How bad is Toccoa Falls College? I expected to see that the team they lost to was Ohio State or Kansas or some such. Nope. It was Western Carolina-- who aren't even a .500 team themselves (9-10), and who are rarely if ever a factor come NCAA Tournament time. A.D.s and school administrators from both sides should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to schedule such a ridiculous contest. |

Hell Western Carolina is only 9-10. You never want to teach your team to let up and half ass it. |

| reply to I AM Is it any different than smaller and weaker football schools taking on a powerhouse in the first few weeks of the season? Look at some of the non-conference matchups early on like San Jose State vs Nebraska or Wyoming vs Texas. Its all about generating extra money for the smaller school, even if they take a 77-10 beating. But you can always get an upset out of those matchups, 2007 Michigan vs Appalachain State comes to mind. |

This would be the 'but mom, all the other kids are doing it' argument that I regularly used when I was a child and my mother wouldn't let me do something.
Never worked very well. Never worked at all, actually. |
