Re: Dodge Dart to use transmission from Hyundai

To each his own but if you like turning heads a 300 is an easy way to do so.

The SMART will turn more heads than any crappy Chrysler. We should have let Dodge and Chrysler die.

Smart car is the dumbest thing ever, you can get 2x the car (civic) and get the SAME mpg... wtf.

The point of it is not the be the cheapest high value car. It's a fancy way of getting around town plus you can park it anywhere. If you want value then don't get a Civic but a new Hyundai.

I agree. But the point was it will turn more heads than a Chrysler if that's what you're into.

My Juke turns heads because it's ugly to some and weird to others.

Not really - I know many heads it does not turn. My BIL has one - he got it ONLY because he is a big guy and when he sat in the car and moved the seat back - he was in heaven. That is virtually the ONLY reason he got the car.

Yay 300!

I'm a big guy too, and I fit wonderfully in the 300. I hope to pick up a 300C SRT8 in the future -- they make wonderful used cars in the $22-24k range. Most of the car is Mercedes E-class and I think that's a good thing. The powertrain is strong and proven, and together it's a package not offered by any other US automaker.

They can keep the v6. I've rented one and it was ok but with the Hemi or the SRT8 version, you've got a real vehicle. If somebody wants a v6 Camry to commute in that's fine but give me a big RWD v8 for road trips any day. Those tiny little cars are comical; nobody wants to be in one in an accident no matter what the safety tests say. I don't want my tombstone to say "At least he got 50 mpg".

And the earlier posts saying Dodge can't build a transmission... My truck's (03 Ram w/ Hemi) 5spd auto is running great after 9 years. They just introduced an 8spd auto that will work with all Hemis and their 300hp v6. It isn't the 1990s anymore; they have improved quite a bit. The Hyundai detractors need to figure that out as well. It is no longer the day of the Hyundai Excel.

The Dart will make a great car for that segment. Who cares if it's a collaborative effort? Everybody's going nuts over the Toyota/Subaru compact that's on the way, but if Dodge does it it's substandard?

The Toyota/Subaru was a joint project, built together. Subaru the boxer engine, Toyota the body/design/suspension

Dodge just went the lazy way, hopped into Hyundai's plant and asked to pick up a few transmissions. Sounds like the 90s to me.

little correction on the Subaru/Toyota venture, it was a Subaru engine, drive train and frame, Toyota engine management, body-design.

and as for the "everyone's going nuts over the Toyota/Subaru compact" it's front engine, rwd, aiming for under 25k, roughly 2600 - 2700lb curb weight and 200hp, and there is plans to add more to the toyota lineup along the same design scheme(ie, light fun "cheap" rwd decent fuel economy)

the dart, is a glorified Elantra.

To put it in simple terms: Toyota and Subaru put in the hours to build a quality product. Dodge walked over to the Hyundai plant and did zero work.

Buying vs. build is something all manufacturers wrestle with. Sourcing a technology to speed time to market is a legitimate tactic and it doesn't make a company bad, weak, doomed or anything like that.

Because their cars are an exciting change from the boring cars most people make. I mean for family sedans they have the Charger which screams beast. Also the Chrysler 300 is a pimp mobile.

Never got the love for the 300. Pretty much a Bentley rip off and nothing great there.

For Family Sedans Ford has the SHO, Fusion Sport, Mazda has the 6, Nissan has the Maxima and Altima 3.5, Hyundai has the Sonata and Genesis V8.

Not to mention the 2013 Fusion trumps them all in hotness.
