 | Whole House DVR For CV ? My mom, living in Nassau County, switched to Verizon a week ago, from CV. Nothing but problems. She called CV today to go back to them, and was sold the Ultimate triple play with some type of whole house DVR and 3 non DVR boxes. Is this the network dvr 170gb stuff that everyone in the BX is complaining about? I tried to search on here and didn't see any talk about it yet. Also, my brother said they have a new combination cable modem/wireless router, but its only for new customers?
Thanks in advance for replies. This is a great forum. |

The ultimate tripple play comes with a netgear dual band router which is separate from the modem, but still has to be returned to cablevision if you cancel. |

| reply to verizonsux Several of us have gone to our "own" network DVRs. I have a friend who is also going this route - they want the ability to skype, surf, and use other PC functions with their TV.

WMC Rocks but keep in mind its not a true network DVR as it does not have native LIVE TV access remotely. Of course xbox extenders and 3rd party apps like Centons Tuner addon will allow it. |

Keep in mind the media center pc also does not save money. ITs better then cablevisions but its expensive up front. especially if you dont ahve an extra pc to use. |

| Yes!! It is NOT a cost saver in any way for me. I spent $1000 between the computer, tuner, xbox. I turned in my two cable boxes, and got a cablecard - save about $5 a month on my bill (I think one of the boxes was free on promo). For comparison, $15 savings a month is fair since I would have had to pay $10 more for network DVR.
Still, not a cost savings and I am responsible for maintaining the equipment. I do get 2Tb of recording space (and could easily add more), an xbox, and a computer attached to my TV to display pictures, surf, or do anything else. And it was fun to set up. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

You can access live tv from anywhere in the house using extenders. You can also access recorded tv/music/pictures/video from anywhere on the planet via a PC and a plug in called remote potato |

 | reply to verizonsux The WHole Room dvr is crap and doesn't work. IT SUCKS it won't record your scheduled programs and if you pause you can only pause for 14 minutes and if you planned to watch the next program it doesn't let you watch it from the beginning. It's not DVR its bull shit. -- Email/MSN: Michael at hardwaregeeks.comAIM: MikeR35292 |

If cablevision gets rid of cablecard completely then you would have to buy a new adapter. |
