 | Any Caps or Limits? I have the MAX service and was wondering if there are any transfer caps, limits, or throttling after any amounts.
I usually use around ~250GB in and about 20GB out. Never had any issues.
However, I've started a rather large FTP transfer with tons of backup data that I want at home now. I've transferred over 100GB in the past 24 HOURS and see about another 200GB inbound traffic.
This is all on top of normal use of course. The transfer is one way, inbound, via FTP on port 21.
Will I run into any problems using half a terabyte inbound this month?
Thanks.
*I saw a couple other threads when I searched, but they were a bit dated which is why I created this thread. |

its still 250GB's, though ive never seen any posts about them actually enforcing it, and i know i go over that all most monthly and have never had a problem. |
|
 | Doh! Considering the business I'm in, can't believe I didn't think to look at the AUP.
Yeah, I use around or above 250GB as well. Haven't heard a peep from them either.
However, this month I may well hit 500-600GB. Hopefully they don't take any drastic actions because of this.
This is a one-time transfer. |

 | reply to sajanNOPPIX It's a softcap. So they will or won't enforce it. Usually with a softcap they only enforce it when people complain about bandwidth. |
|
 | reply to sajanNOPPIX think ive used close to 900GB's one month, i do not make that a habit, it was the month i was tryin out different linux "flavores"
didnt hear a peep out of them. |

 | reply to sajanNOPPIX Between Netflix, Hulu, Steam, Xbox, SWTOR, STO, Revision 3, twit, Flickr, facebook, and you know, regular browsing. I burn through 300+ Down a month and I expect 10-30 GB up. I've yet to get a complaint.
Once when I built my new computer I redownloaded over 300 games from GoG and Steam over the course of the week. It was a bit ridiculous but I saturated my MAX connection for days...... |

 | reply to sajanNOPPIX I have never heard of anyone getting even a warning about usage. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

 | Aside from the customer implementing something on their own to track bandwidth usage, is there somewhere within the mediacom system to track it? |
|
 | No, because Mediacom does not enforce it. |
|
 | reply to calvinj there are apps you can get to track it though |

 | Most decent routers can track this as well, it's up to you to track how much you use IMO. Cell phone companies don't tell you how many minutes you've used, it's up to you to keep track. How is this any different? |
|
 | Verizon wireless does. I can log into my account and get minutes used. It may not reflect live stats as it's behind but it's there.

How is this any different? att is the same, granted it may be delayd a day or two, but they show me exact minutes used for each type (m2m, night, weekend, etc) as well as txt's and data. the comparison isnt exactly accurate though is it? cell phone companies bill you for those items, mediacom current does not have UBB or enforce the cap, now if they ever enforce the cap or use it as a reason to term an account then yes they damn well should provide a way to monitor useage then, and those numbers best match the metrics of the router and not be counting frivolous junk (ping, arp, etc)
thus why i dont think it will ever happen, thats a can of worms rocco may not actually want to open. |

Looks like we have a Verizon, AT&T and I'm tossing in my Sprint. 3 pretty large carriers giving you pretty close to real time stats. Besides comparing apples to oranges doesn't always work
My question stems from the fact that I've never been on a "metered" service where you had caps, overages, and etc so I've never bothered to set something up to see. I know whats out there. Use a few tools my self at work to monitor interface bandwidth and utilization. More of a curiosity what we may or may not use in a month for service. Might just have to set something up on my own |

 | reply to sajanNOPPIX Just an update, January is just about over and from Jan 1 to Jan 20 I have used 670GB in and almost 22GB out. Not notices, phone calls or anything. Looks like I'm in the clear.
To answer those above, I have DD-WRT installed on both routers with connect to to the modem via a switch. I pay for a second IP.
DD-WRT has a built in page that shows traffic usage.
I just log into them both, and add the usage up. |
