 | LF value for money gaming laptop Hey guys, Hope you can help. I am pretty much technology retarded. can anyone suggest a good value gaming laptop that would be able to handle top end games. BF3, SWTOR etc
I have looked at Alienware and understand that i would be paying for a pumped up overexpensive dell POS(piece of sh1t). I understand that there must be an equal from other organisations but when looking at specs it might as well be written in brail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

 | I would like to get away with $800 but my fear would be that it would struggle with high end games. I have a high end desktop but would like something for when im out and about. |
|
 | I bought the ASUS 17.5 in gaming laptop. The one I bought was a little north of your price range, but I have had zero issues playing BF3. I play on high settings and only have any issues when sniping great distances.
Gaming laptops are consumer money sinks. Be careful and make sure you are getting components for your money not names. -- I am whatever you say I am. If I wasn't than why would I say I am. |

| reply to Liver You can get an i7 Sandy Bridge processor and a GTX 560M with either a 15" or 17" screen for about $900 if you watch Bestbuy for refurbished Asus gaming laptops.
New, you're looking at about $1200. Don't go less than a GTX 560M for a GPU and don't get swayed by lots of VRAM on a GPU--it doesn't help with framerates if it's on a 540M or 555M. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

I almost went with that before I built my desktop instead. I think it's a good deal. Gtx 570m. |

 | reply to Liver I researched this alot as I just bought a gaming laptop
An Asus G74/G54 or G73/G53 is gonna be the best bang for your buck. You can find a refurbished 53 on newegg for 800 bucks I bet. They are all Core i7's with GTX 460's (53/73) or 560's (54/74)
You won't find better price for the horse power.

 | reply to Krisnatharok said by Krisnatharok:http://www.ibuypower.com/IbpPages/Notebook.aspx I bought a hefty custom PC from IBuyPower and overall the buy was blah:
1) One of the parts I ordered was out of stock, so my order just sat there waiting for it. That would have been fine but they didn't tell me, I had to call in after days of inactivity to find out.
2) The machine didn't even boot. I had to play with the BIOS a bit to get it working.
3) None of the windows patches or video drivers were installed. Make sure you check all your windows update are installed once you get it.
The few times I did get to talk to a person when I called in was fine, they are all American workers and knew their stuff. The machine overall is working fine. The parts were what I ordered. |

 | reply to Liver I bought a computer from newegg for $750, came with a GT540M and 6 gigs of RAM, i5 2410m processor.
I run BF3 and SWTOR on damn near max graphics NP on that sucker. -- DSLR's #1 Diablo 3 Fan. |

 | reply to I AM said by I AM:I keep reading that the G53 Gtx 560m was limited or not as good as the G 73. Don't think so. Same components. Only difference is the 53 is a 15.6" and the 73 is 17". And Savious has a point. If you're will to go with an i5, which is more then enough to run most games at highest setting, you can likely shave off anohter hundred bucks or so. |

| reply to puppy I ordered one over Christmas and couldn't be happier. They now have an automated email process that notifies you at what stage the order is in (processing, collecting parts, assembling, QC burn-in, etc.). It booted up without a problem and everything works like a charm. No dead pixels either. It comes with 4 USB ports (1 or 2 are USB3), so I have enough ports for my mouse, external HDD, headphones, and phone charger.
Incredibly impressed with the fingerprint reader and how it has a tie-in to Lastpass. Now I don't have to enter a PW, but use my fingerprint to login to LastPass or UAC.
My only gripe is that the external speakers are a little on the weak side, but I won't even be using them with the headphones, so it's no biggy. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

 | reply to Liver You do get charged a premium from those custom built site however... though apparently the service can be really good? I've heard mixed reviews.
In any case, I'd go with an Asus gaming rig if price:performance is your biggest factor in purchasing. |

 | reply to Krisnatharok Yar Kris, I realize a big company things will fall through. Overall my system is not bad. Right now I'm dealing with a SSD that would occasionally freeze up. I call them and the guy sounded like he knew the issue even though my description was like "err it would just freeze, and BIOS won't recognize it". He was quick to offer me to either send my SSD in to get a new one, or send me a new one with a hold on credit card. I'm doing the hold (can't live without my PC!) and hopefully I can install it this weekend.
To the OP, regardless of where you get your laptop, make sure you do a Windows Update to get all of the latest patches. I would also suggest you install and run Spybot, use Chrome as your browser, and install ZoneAlarm as your software firewall. If all this sounds too complicated, then at least run Windows Update. |
