pfsense workgroup question

Does pfsense support windows workgroups? I am having issues with cif shares on all my machines after using pfsense ( I think). None of my machines can see or connect to the other shares via cif.

I have scanned every pfsense config page and I don't see where i get to specify a workgroup name. ( a complete novice). Any ideas?

Windows (or samba) hosts on the same subnet should have no problem browsing file shares as they normally would; this is independent of pfsense or whatever other router happens to serve as gateway on the network.

If on the other hand the shares you are trying to browse happen to be on a different vlan from the host that you are attempting to browse from, then you may have a firewall issue, in which case the remedy is to create a pass rule on the pfsense interface that acts as gateway to the host you are trying to browse from, allowing TCP/445 to the host of the network share (and possibly other ports, I'm no SMB expert).

If all the machines are on the LAN, pfSense has nothing to do with it

@verizon.net

The machines are all on the same Lan ( or vlan).

ps: Can pfsense be used as a wins server?

WINS is archaic and only really needed in a routed environment. Your clients should be broadcasting for whatever they need.
