Re: a 4 TB drive is available now With an external HD, unless you can determine otherwise from size of weight, you can have more than one drive inside, so it's possible that the model listed above contains 2 x 2 TB drives -- not a big deal if you need an external drive, but may be a problem when one wants an internal drive.
For example, I have several SFF computers that can house only one HDD. -- Wacky Races 2012! |

The hard drive companies are making consumers take it up the ass on hard drives since the floods in Thailand. |

This is the most basic supply / demand ever.
Not to mention you linked a NEW highest capacity hdd... I mean... wow
Economics 101 please.
As for the topic, I'll wait for a WD black 4tb =p but nice to see us getting larger and larger HDD's just hope they can keep the reliability up as well. |

 | There's more to it than just supply and demand.
Once you get to monopoly, or even just oligopoly in a market where there's a significant barrier to entry, the prices may no longer be dictated by a free market. And with a little more than 2 companies left once the acquisitions are completed, we'll definitely have a case of a highly oligopolistic market. |

For some reason they'll nail tech companies like memory manufacturers (who've been nailed for colluding at least once) but they don't seem to care much about telecom companies and the like.
I'm guessing it has to do with where the companies are and how much lobbying they have. Asian companies with few lobbyists? Nail them. Domestic companies with lobbying armies? Bend over consumers. I'm also thinking of when MS caught the heat in Europe but not so much in the US. |

We'll see what happens. I predict it might take close to the end of this year for 2TB drives to fall back to the pre-flood prices. HD companies figured out that when companies need storage, they are willing to pay the higher price because they have very little choice. |
