 | [Cable TV] Cable Issues So at the start of the week, some of the channels that I get through analog cable got black/white fuzzy with no sound. From channel 25 up they are like this. Channel 24 down are fine.
So I call into the support center and the girl working tells me that I shouldn't even be able to see these cable services since I'm only paying for internet. I have had these channels available since I moved to this address almost 6 months ago! When I moved to this new place, I was told by a Mediacom rep that even though I was not paying for digital cable through a receiver, I would still be able to access the basic analog channels because the cable line needed to be activated in order for me to get internet.
This is a complete turnaround from what I was told at the time I moved to my new place. Every time I contact support I get the feeling that everyone has a different story and that I'm being screwed in one way or another.
You guys need to make up your minds! |

 | What does your bill say? Are you just paying for Internet? No Pay, no TV, that is the way it usually works. Maybe you are not the one getting screwed? |

 | reply to tekz It looks like you ended up with a new trap for HSD only. It leaks analog channels 2-23. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

I was here when they came out and set it up - if they didn't do what they needed to do, then that's an issue with the service men.
Don't take away my service randomly one day and then when I call for service tell me the opposite of what you had originally told me. A note on my door, an email in my inbox or a letter from Mediacom regarding a newly installed cap (if that's what is going on here) would have been fine and likely would have avoided my frustration. |

MediacomChadMediacom Social Media Relations TeamPremium,VIP join:2010-01-20 Gulf Breeze, FL kudos:57 | The main issue here is although the channels are leaking through the trap and can be seen even though it is not intended to provide fully working cable service without paying for broadcast/extended basic cable or above(digital etc).
The initial rep was correct in stating that some channels will come through as this is sometimes used in troubleshooting to verify cable signal being active on the line, but without paying for actual cable service we have no way to troubleshoot the problem with the channels as it is not an actual service you are specifically paying to have access to.
From our side of things it is simply a bonus to get the limited amount of channels, but we cannot guarantee that it will work or be consistent by any stretch without paying for actual cable service. -- MediacomChad Mediacom Social Media Relations Team »mediacomcable.com/CustomerSupport/ |

| reply to Tekz My apologies if that sounded harsh, for that I'm sorry I just don't like the fact that my money goes to Mediacom each month and people try to abuse the system that's all by getting something there aren't entitled to
Your correct, the Mediacom tech should've put the correct trap on the line though |

I remember the old ones used to leak the 60's and 70's and for some reason 23. Well the idea was to only have one type of trap. For example if you have HSD only you would get analog basic cable for free (but of course no support). Also this trap is DOCSIS 3 compatible.
People paying for basic cable would get the same channels and support. The only problem was this trap apparently blocks all digital signal (including HD local channels).
So we're back to using 2 different traps. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |
