[WIN7] Pingability

Tried running the dslr ping test, but get the message that I'm not pingable. Went to the firewall, enabled ICMPv4-In at first then enabled all v6. Reboot but the ping test still doesn't work. Can someone help me become pingable to dslr?
Going straight to sites like speakeasy, comcast etc, give pings. I can use the speed tests at dslr, but the ping test gives me an error. As a paid member, I have to use points to jump the line.
Can I just add dslreports in general, or do I need to add the actual url to the test? Or what? I'm stumped. Never had this problem before. The computer is running win7 pro, dell xps about 4 yrs. old. Any help appreciated.

Tim

Are you behind a DSL Modem that is getting your Public IP? Or does your PC have the Public IP, otherwise behind a DSL Modem you normally have a Private IP and your PC cannot be pinged, it is the Modem that is getting pinged and responding or not when it has the Public IP your ISP assigns.

We have comcast cable modem. DSLR recognizes the IP immediately. It's not that big of an issue, but I want everything on dslr to work properly. There are 3 different IP assignements in the firewall, public, private and domain. This is as much as I know. Sorry to be such a dumb ass about this. I've enabled all IPV4, but didn't change the domains. I've gone to the firewall and enabled IPV4, but did not change any domains. However, we did have AT&T before moving. Any info I can provide, keep asking. I've been a member for a long time, the day dslr can't ping me, is the day the world ends!

OLDS, I recently changed out the trans on an olds suv, all wheel drive, by myself. Will never do that again.

The cable modem router drops ping requests from the WAN on the floor. That is by design.

Is there a setting to change in the Modem?

If your cable modem is an integrated modem-router then it's possible. What exactly is your setup? Modem -> router -> individual computers? Or (integrated modem-router) -> individual computers?

You do not need to be pingable from the WAN, you know. The test you're trying to do may be considered inapplicable to your configuration.

using an arris modem, it carries the telephone and internet. Seperate surfboard router. Two wireless laptops and one wired desktop. The arris isn't the newest and best, but it seems to work well. I've done the firewall settings. They don't seem to "take" at dslr.

Stang, I did follow your link. It's different than all the other searches I tried. Followed the directions and will now try the ping tools. Will get back to you.

Nope, still not pingable, even with the new rule. Why is this such a pita in Win7?
Another edit, just to add info. At the time, I only had one wireless laptop, hence the access point. Now, I'm married and have several computers, would that have anything to do with it? lol.
Also, I'm trying to use the dslr line quality test, I mis-spoke by saying the ping test. Either way, I need ping at dslr.

Yes it sure could. If there is a Router that is setup to obtain the Public IP then it will need to be pingable on it's WAN interface. The Router is likely handing out Private IPs to all wired and wireless devices that connect to it's LAN side that are not pingable from the WAN side (even when making Win 7 firewall rules). The Public IP is the IP that needs to respond to WAN side pings.

OK, I have to admit that I'm worried about going into the router and changing the settings. It was quite a process to make it an access point. Had to call Belkin support in order to do it. What if I mess it up and it won't work at all, lol. I'll do some research on this. Not being pingable to dslr is unacceptable, but screwing with router settings may kill all the wireless connections.
Edit to ask a question. It's been so long since the router was made an access point, but If I remember correctly, my wifes wired xp computer should be able to ping dslr? Don't we need one wired computer in order to change everything back?

Thanks stang. That was easy. Met with a friend whom I haven't seen in quite a while. He showed me pics of his 57 chevy with the front tires off the ground, I guess it's running 9's at union grove in Il.
