I have three Acer LCD monitors that are known, working monitors. All three have DVI-D and HDMI ports.
I cannot, for the life of me, get the damn video card to display all three monitors at the same time. Everywhere I read it says it is possible but I can't get the third monitor, whichever one I pick as the third, to display.
The graphics card sees the third monitor, and I can move the DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI cable between the monitors and they all work, just not at the same time.
Windows 7 tells me the configuration cannot be saved at this time.

quote: Monitors: AMD recommends DisplayPort Display monitors, as they offer optimal flexibility with the highest number of display outputs Depending on the specific graphic card and operating system, ATI Eyefinity technology can support up to six displays. For configurations using more than two displays, additional displays must have DisplayPort connectors.
The specs off this link suggests Eyefinity is fine and supported - are you running the latest drivers?

I am running the latest drivers, just updated them tonight.
I could give a sh*t about Eyefinity and that is all ATI/AMD wants to talk about in their support docs, I just want multiple monitors. I'm using this for work (with an occasional game or two) but productivity is the biggest thing I'm looking for and I can't be as productive without my third monitor. |

Unless one of those monitors is native DisplayPort, or you have an ACTIVE DisplayPort adapter (the ones you have are passive, just electrically wired to DVI), you won't get more than two of your monitors working. |

None are native DP. So I need an active DisplayPort adapter, probably one that is ATI certified?

said by matt5:Does it really matter why not? It has to do with clock generators and stuff... Actually, it's more about the output generators or controllers if you prefer... in these cards, only 3 outputs can be active at one time...
the DVI's and the HDMI all come out of one set and the display ports come out of another set...
As it works out..... you can have two display ports and a DVI or HDMI or; one Display Port and a 2 DVI's; or One Display Port One DVI and one HDMI....
think of it like this:
------------+ + ---- output ctlr 1 / DVI | HDMI Video | Generator| +----- output ctlr 2 / Display Port ------------+
so there are two completely different output paths and yes if you don't have native display ports then an active display port converter is needed.... (I have one and mine didn't work so I went native display port monitors all the way)....

 | reply to exocet_cm displayport has an embedded clock (in the data). The others need a dedicated clock.
The chip architecture has 2 such clock generators available.
So to run 3 monitors that are not native displayport and need the tdms dedicated clock you have to use an active adapter. |
