| Mile and a half cable run is it possible to get comcast to run 1.5 miles of cable to my house thats how far it is where the line stops. I have to have faster speeds and moving is not a option. I would sign up for a 4 year or more contract i just need cable internet anyone have any ideas on how to get this done? |

To be honest, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new house and move. |

It is not cheap to install poles, amps, wire, etc and they are not going to eat the cost for one user. -- "I want to legalize freedom" Ron Paul |

 | reply to bkwyatt98 Find out who lets the contract for Comcast in your area. They are allowed a legal monopoly in return for service concessions and you may be able to get some help/leverage from the person/entity responsible for allowing them that monopoly. |

beerbumobscurum per obscuriusPremium join:2000-05-06 Eastern PA | reply to scooby one thing to factor into the cost.. a one and a half mile run would require, depending on spacing, anywhere from 40 - 55 poles.. dunno what Comcast charges but my power company was charging $3500 per pole in 2005..
using that price you're looking at $140,000 - $192,500 for the poles alone..
one could get a decent house for that price.. |
|
 | reply to bkwyatt98 Why the talk about new poles? The house must have electricity, right?
Still going to be tens of thousands of dollars for a 8000 foot run... |

gar187erI do this for a living join:2006-06-24 Dover, DE kudos:1 | reply to bkwyatt98 say 8000' ft of cable....1.5db loss on the high end per 100'
80*1.5=120db worth of loss.....and say you need a mini to start your extension with outputs of 45/35...youd need about 4 actives along with all that cable.....4 actives already tacked on to the end of the line...not many places do cascades of 3-4 amps deep to accommodate your extension....the odds are its not do able even if you paid.... -- I'm better than you! |

| reply to mrschultz02 the cable can run on the electric poles thats how it is everywhere else . it drives me crazy because if you turn off my road to the left the lines stop 1.5 miles away if you turn to the right then go left down another street then the lines stop 2.6 miles away. it seems they just left us in the middle with nothing. I dont have 16000 dollars for cable i would be willing to pay up to 2000 for whatever but after all theses years of having no modern internet connections i expect comcast to do what they should and pay for the rest. |

 | reply to bkwyatt98 Hate to say it but if you're only able to spend 2k you're SOL. Better look into satellite or wireless. -- »www.TheExoticFish.com »www.ImTan.info |

You have to use logic here...If it did cost $16,000 to get internet to your house, it would take Comcast 320 months (almost 27 years) to break even if your monthly bill was $50 - hardly worth it to them. |

1 edit | i know they are all about the roi. but im just trying to find a way to get this area expanded to because satellite is horrible ive had it before, mobile broadband is not even an option because i use 200 gigs or more a month right now less because im with century link they just made 1.5 mbps available my point is i would understand if i was 10 20 miles away but we are not. and there has never been any advancement for cable or really anything. I would think in my situation it has to be something i can do to get comcast to expand a little bit further. or does anyone know of any other service then satellite, dsl or mobile broadband that would work for me? i dont haha
also i have been talking to megapath which runs off comcasts network does anyone think they might be willing to pay for this |

 | reply to Ted Sheckler The sales person said it depends on how much overhead they will pay for so I'm not sure |

| reply to bkwyatt98 As others have mentioned, check with your local franchising authority (usually your municipality). Most (but not all) franchise agreements require that all residences be connected if requested. Such is the case in my township. All residences must be connected. The same is not true for businesses or institutions, except that schools in my area are required to be connected at Comcast's expense. |
