 | Suddenlink is about to start limiting my bandwidth. Yea, I'm really pissed. Been a suddenlink customer for 10 years and I have TV and internet with them. I just upgraded my Internet package yesterday to the 50Mbps plan and today I get a letter saying they are limiting my bandwidth each month. I see how they treat their loyal customers. I don't think I have any choice now, but to go with DSL and DirecTV. Really sucks, but I'd rather get 10Mbps and not be limited then 50Mbps and be limited. You would think you would be grandfathered in with the no bandwidth limit like they did with Verizon Wireless when they started limiting their bandwidth. |

| The DSL isn't capped? If not, you're absolutely sure they won't start capping?
Not like you're the only one, or Suddenlink is the only one ever to cap.
I still wouldn't get uncapped DSL, or satellite, because of contracts. -- Moe, I need your advice

 | Well, Suddenlinks TV/DVR sucks. I've been with them for 10 years. As long as the service is 1/2 way decent I don't care about contracts. Plus it will be cheaper, with more channels. |

 | reply to IYIaster what provider you get doesn't really matter as even suddenlink last year was going on about how they won't be capping. and here we are |

 | Well if someone goes over that limit then there is an issue.
I mean if you pay for a hotel room does that mean you can stay in all the rooms in the hotel?
People running stream video and playing games wont go over that limit. So either your dl/ul alot of torrents/newsgroups or running a business on a residential account.
Anyone who uses that much and still complains about the cap is the main reason the rest of us has speed issues, because you have a few of those people on your node and there goes the fluctuation in speeds |

| There's no issue when a family using Netflix in HD, Youtube and gaming surpasses the limit at an average of 10-15hrs. at a constant usage of 10-15mbit connections. I'd call that criminally low. Indirect example because I wouldn't be jumping house to house in my neighborhood just because they run Suddenlink service. If they can't handle server load, drop their speeds and price and no limits. |

 | reply to Really said by Really :Anyone who uses that much and still complains about the cap is the main reason the rest of us has speed issues, because you have a few of those people on your node and there goes the fluctuation in speeds A data transfer cap will do nothing for speed issues on oversold nodes. The only reasonable way to say that some sort of limitation would improve the network would be to limit EVERYONE to an equal amount of bandwidth that the network could actually handle during "primetime" hours. |

 | reply to Fibre Bingo... SL wants you to buy your video from them. Not watch Netflix all day. |

 | reply to nnaarrnn It would help if the ones who use alot of bandwidth slack back. You have to realize that there is something called the 10% club. They are the ones who use more than this cap.. and that is who they are targeting. Netflix and gaming all-day? Why be cheap. get some cable or sat. I bet there is only like I said a limited few that does Netflix all day everyday for there primary means of TV... those select few will be the only ones to complain.. or files shares... or alot of netfux. |

That analogy doesn't make sense. Or at least it doesn't apply to this.

Perhaps if this were 2004. The quality in movies/video games have gone way up since then.
A video game could be about 8GB+ in download size. Then an massively multiplayer game could be almost double or even tripple than that. Then with movies you could be about 10GB as well. And that's 720p! There's still 1080p which are even bigger.

I wasn't aware that the more (as in size) you download the less speeds people are going to have.. unless you're trying to say it's the people maxing out their connection. Then, well, people are doing this with or without the DL cap limit.. so I don't see why you'd bring this up.
If you want to point fingers at slow speeds then you should point them at SuddenLink who are probably overselling their bandwidth. Not people who are doing what they've paid to do. |

 | This caps are ridiculousy low. One of my friends, who is on a 10mbit connection, can easily use over 400GB in a month just using netflix and browsing/gaming between him and his family. Hell, just look at the size of SWTOR in the beta, it was 32GBs download and it's still getting larger now that it's live. That's 1/5th of a sub 10mbit tier's cap just downloading the game, much less actually playing it or doing anything else. These caps are nothing but a money grab by a greedy corporation who doesn't want to actually spend any money on a proper backbone and doesn't want to have any real competition with their cable and phone services. This has nothing to do with "customer satisfaction" and everything to do with lining their pockets.
Oh how I wish it were illegal for them to cap broadband usage... |
|
 | like I said limited few... you can have 3/4 of my bandwidth.... I don't live on the internet or need the internet to live.. |
|
 | .. so if you don't care one way or the other, why are you in the thread trying to argue for the limit? |
|
 | reply to Really Netflix and gaming all-day? Why be cheap. get some cable or sat. I bet there is only like I said a limited few that does Netflix all day everyday for there primary means of TV What does playing games or watching things on Netflix have to do with being cheap? How does having cable or satellite factor in to that? And you're obviously not considering households with multiple residents, because your average "nuclear family" (husband, wife, two kids, dog) could, in theory, be using at least 4 different pieces of equipment that connect to the internet.
I mean if you pay for a hotel room does that mean you can stay in all the rooms in the hotel?
People running stream video and playing games wont go over that limit. So either your dl/ul alot of torrents/newsgroups or running a business on a residential account. Your broad generalizations and assumptions based on misinformation suck just as bad as your analogy.
I don't live on the internet or need the internet to live.. Good for you, I guess. No one else has said anything to prompt such a statement, so I don't know what your purpose is. |

 | reply to IYIaster Well just got a notice in the mail here in Nacogdoches they are going to be capping my connection to 250 gigs a month with every 5 gigs over costing a extra 10 bucks a month which is crazy. There just mad I think because I can go online and get all the tv shows I want to watch that I care about and not have to pay for outragouesly priced cable tv which I got rid of several years ago. |
|
 | opps ment to say 50 gigs over. sorry. |
|
 | reply to areacode304 you are right. the reason these limits is not because of do alot of data. it is just normal use that everyone uses. it is all a conspiracy against is normal users who just use the net for browsing, gamaing and some Netflix.
Suddenlink is just targeting us normal users that is why they are going to make all of there hsi accounts dump them and go elsewhere. so hey lets just take into account they don't notice what normal use is vs some raping their service. that is why they are imposing this cap that will affect ever user they have.
So your right. let all of us normal users jump ship and then with no revenue they will have to lift the cap. roflmao... Like is said... Limited few lets see how much they will miss those limited few. Bet the would be happy just to get them off their network. or better yet let just talk a big game ... because this time next year you will still be trolling the Suddenlink forum trying to justify your evenings living on the net. |
