 | LAN parties, reminiscing and locating LAN Parties Lately, I've really been thinking about going to a LAN party. About a month or so ago I jumped back into Starcraft 2 and have been playing nothing but SC2. So I've really been hunkering down and putting in quite a bit of time in this past few weeks.
The extra practice I've been putting in has really paid off. I'm getting my timings right, countering efficiently, and overall have just stepped my game up. This rekindled time I've been putting in has really made me think about looking into some LAN parties. I've never been to one before but I've always wanted to. Every once in a great while I'll get the LAN party itch. Ive brought it up to some friends of mine but it has never seemed to really flesh itself out into any sort of action.
I can still remember basically the beginnings of the LAN party desire I've carried with me for the last decade maybe more! It all started with Quake 3 Arena. I bought Q3A back when it first came out. I jumped all over it right away. It was a no brainer after owning and playing Quake 1 & 2. I literally played Q3A for years. I had to have stayed with Q3A for 4-5+ years before I stopped eventually playing and moved on.
Those were the days. I still feel the competitive days of Q3A were some of the most fun and exciting moments in my gaming life. I can still remember amazingly fun moments and memories of my Q3A days.
Have any of you guys played in any/many LAN parties? I'm being serious this time about gettin my ass out to one ASAP. I don't know where to look though... there has to be a website out there that lists LAN parties throughout the country. It seems only logical that there would be a website for that. Is there? Let me know of some sites that are tops for getting LAN information.
If anyone is interested in telling some stories about their LAN's they've attended. Maybe giving the "La'Noob" some important tips that you've learned from experiences you've had. I'm open to any information you guys want to include in your posts. I'm all ears!
Btw - I recently built my newest PC and it's just a beast. Eats up anything I've thrown at it. It would be awesome to bring my PC to a lan and get down on some serious LAN gaming like I do when at home. I live in Southeastern Michigan, and don't really hear much about any local LAN's around here. I'd be one happy gamer if they did have some. |

| I spent my high school days going to LAN parties. The largest was a 400 man LAN. I went to one of those twice, a few 200s, and many 60s.
It was a blast and I still talk with people I met there. -- flickr | Of faith, power and glory |

There was always this 1 guy who had a $10k+ pc, a cube that weighed probably 150 pounds, always stuffed with the newest and greatest hardware, 10+ hard drives, custom built lighting and water cooling. Funny thing is, I dont think I ever saw him actually play any games with us. he was usually too busy talking to people who were drooling over his pc lol, and helping people mod their xbox's.
My favorite lan party, was when i went and met my counterstrike clan about 6 hours away. I think around 40 of our clan made it, finally got to put faces to the voices i spent hundreds and hundreds of hours playing with. so much fun. |

Was a god damned fire hazard but we had a good time. Actually we didnt do too much FPS stuff, mostly played Worms Armageddon... Guided Flying Sheep ftw. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

| reply to italiansmoke I'm with you, I used to hit these up, fun times...
Quick google search, apparently there's still a large lan that happens in Mount Pleasant every quarter, probably about a 2 hour drive for you. Then there's mpcon, still on going, lol.

 | reply to italiansmoke Before 2002, I used to go down to an internet cafe "LOLOLOLOL" and pay 3 dollars an hour to play computer games with other people.
We played Q3 and Q2 every day at lunch too, because it was across the street from my high school.
The only LAN I ever went to was about 15-20 people, and we all played Counter Strike on Estate. I ripped everyone up, because they were all 40+ years old and I was 17 and quick like a tiger.
Montana doesnt have much for LAN parties, unfortunately. -- DSLR's #1 Diablo 3 Fan. |

Most of us have been friends since the day of the C64 and the copy-fests that used to go on. Nothing more fun than fragging those you know and hearing them bitch about it for years afterward. |

Most we had was 6 of us at once but they were always a great time. Staying up till the wee hours of the morning. Pigging out on pizza and pop all weekend. etc etc.
Went to 2 large LAN CS tournaments where we finished 7th out of 25 and 5th out of 30. Went to 1 smaller LAN and finished 1st out of maybe 12 teams. It was a more local event so there was only 1 other clan that even came close to giving us any trouble (still pretty much destroyed them.. lol..) To give you an idea of the funding this LAN organizer had, we won bags of chips, shirts & hats... lol -- "The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't, are both right. | reply to italiansmoke I wanted to do a LAN party for my son's birthday last year. I was thinking I could rent out a place with a dozen or so pcs and all the kids could go at each other in a bunch of different games. I couldn't find a place like that anywhere. I tried looking online and in the yellow pages but just drew a blank. I guess internet cafes just don't exist around here. |

| There is just no money in it. I've looked into it before and it is quite difficult to set up a business around a video arcade or a PC arcade. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

 | reply to italiansmoke Ah....the memories of lugging your box and that giant CRT monitor to god knows where so you could frag some friends. Those were the days.
Reminiscing is fun, but to be honest, I doubt I would go through the trouble of it all today when I can settle in the comfort of my own chair and just jump on a multiplayer FPS and fire up Vent.
I will say it was fun though. There is something to be said about fragging a dude and then being able to follow that up by throwing an empty Coke can across the room and hitting him in the head. lol |

| reply to italiansmoke Probably mpcon(A2), which is in december so you just missed it. the only other one I saw that had a real showing was the big shot gaming one in mount pleasant, which they do 2 / year. (»www.bigshotgaming.com/) last year they had it in april, so its coming up soon. -- Here's the final bullet, to put our love to death. |
