Re: Exxon gas cleans intake valves? All of those can be caused by about 100 other things - including bad maintenance and bad storage tanks ... Sorry - been using gas for 29+ years and no, nada, none, zip, zilch, for issues with gas. Before TT existed or was a gleam in a marketing directors eye, and after... -- Brian

Mind if I ask where you live, in general terms? Urban area or more rural? In many parts of the country, due to air quality issues, "city" gas is often quite different from "country" gas. In fact, one of the small joys I take in road trips is being able to buy gas on the road that is of generally superior operational quality to what I'm forced to buy most of the time here in the city. |

Techron is sold in Canada as Petro-Canada Tactrol, you can find it in the gas stations.
Just suck it in slow and don't hydrolock your engine Seafoam is more popular for this with my crew. I usually reserve Techron for the gas tank, but I may have to give it a try via a vacuum port next time around. |

| It was the preferred solvent in the Saturn FSM for un-gumming intake valves back in the 90s. Only necessary on one year's single-cam engine however due to an improperly-long valve stem causing fouling. I'm fuzzy on the exact details but it does work if sticky valves are your actual problem. |

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | reply to DarkLogix Lets see - in the time - of driving: 3 different Subaru's, and Honda Civic hatchback (sold with 214K miles on the car), Honda Accord wagon, Chrysler T&C, Honda Odyssey and a BMW 330i (very used - bought with 150K miles on the clock).
I have driven across the country just this last summer and to New Hampshire, from Ohio, a couple times. Only time I would consider TT gas is if the other gas stations are only local or not well kept. Never had issues with gas - not once and there was zero difference in how the cars drove. -- Brian

| reply to scross Seafoam?? Heheh. I don't know of anyone in my 27 years as a technician that ever used that crap in the field. I find it amusing that someone could call Top Tier fuel a marketing ploy and call Seafoam a cure-all. Now that's funny.
We used butyl cellosolve to remove carbon deposits, GM's old Top Engine Cleaner® . The newest and even more effective (and available)GM™ part number is 88861802. It looks like washer fluid but is quite effective when used properly. It isn't cheap, but it does a lot more than a silly mix of naptha, mineral oil and IPA will. -- "from a broken heart to a hole in the sky" |
