Google is Blocking Scroogle - says they are a Bot

I was able to use Scroogle today until just now when I got this:

Forbidden
so sorry...
Google is temporarily blocking this Scroogle server.

Please wait ten minutes before trying again.

Yes, Scroogle is upset with Google.

1. Google handles 1 billion searches per day, while Scroogle
handles 350,000 searches per day. This means that Scroogle is 0.035 percent of Google's load.

2. Google uses 900,000 servers, while Scroogle leases just six low-end dedicated servers.

3. Google has billions and billions of dollars in the bank, while Scroogle is a recognized public charity and survives on modest donations averaging $43 per day.

4. For more than seven years, Scroogle has always made serious efforts to detect and block any and all bots. Almost every Scroogle searcher is a live person clicking on a mouse. Yet Google treats Scroogle like a bot because they see the traffic from our six IP addresses as higher than normal. Searching Google with a bot is against Google's terms of service, but Scroogle users are not bots.

Is it "Terms of Service" for Google, or is it "Terms of Monopoly"?

You can tell the Antitrust Division what you think about Google.

For the last several weeks, I have been getting a more generic message SOMETIMES when using Scroogle that said "cannot contact Google. Please wait ten minutes and try again". I just thought Scroogle was really busy at the time. I had no idea Google is playing EVIL with them again.

I'm glad Scroogle has finally fully explained what is going on here. I'll be contacting the US Dept of Justice and filing a complaint. I urge anyone who hates monopolies...especially the Google one to do the same.

(If anyone wonders why I chose this forum it should be obvious the privacy concern here. I have been using Scroogle exclusively for many years now and I try to send them some money whenever I can to support what they are doing).

I thought Scroogle had already died thanks to Google's blocking; months ago it stopped working for me. I switched to Startpage, which I believe also has the anonymous feature.

Late Edit: After posting this, I tried a search using Scroogle again, and it worked fine. It hadn't worked the last time I tried months ago.

So I wonder if Scroogle or Startpage is the more secure and/or more efficient?

Works for me;

»ssl.scroogle.org/

The Scroogle search engine add-on to Firefox works too. I'm certainly not an employee or associated in any way with either Google or Scroogle.

I'm just wondering how Google is a monopoly and what the department of justice is supposed to do...

Scroogle should become ScroBing, ScroYahoo, etc... or ScroThemselves. They leech off of others success, then whine and complain when they get told to stop leeching. At they very least Scroogle should pick another search engine to latch on to and scrape search results from so if they kill their relationship with one they have another to feed from.

Anybody who thinks Google is a monopoly does not know what a monopoly is.

I guess Microsoft is not a monopoly either...yeah, right....

Just because one company was judged a monopoly doesn't make another company a monopoly.

Or is Heinz a monopoly on ketchup? GE a monopoly on lightbulbs? Schwin a monopoly on bikes?

Who judged Google a monopoly?

It's getting that way if you have to sign up for Google+ just to buy an app for your phone!

And the fact there are many viable alternatives to Google, However the same cannot be said for Windows.. in many parts of computer use in life one requires access to a windows machine. PC gaming is a good example, outside of Blizzard games and a few Steam titles you pretty much need windows to game(unless you want to fight with Emulation on Linux.. but most users can barely find screenshots in a game folder let alone run Cedega or Wine)

I contacted them, and told them I don't feel google is a monopoly. I also told them they shouldn't listen to people who whine when something they were getting for free goes away. In what world of fairness do you feel it is OK to benefit from Google's Search algorithms without google benefiting? Honestly, I am surprised sites like scroogle weren't shut down a long time ago.

Jump on your high horse and call me a google employee all you want, but using scroogle is really no different than pirating a song. It is using the services of others without compensating them. If you hate google, use yahoo or bing. Or you could just not search. Maybe start your own search company where people can sign up for your search results and you can charge them to stay anonymous.

If you don't like Heinz, you can buy Hunt's. That would be a duopoly, I guess. Store brands don't count because they are made by major producers on contract. The same might be said for search engines, since most use Google and others use Yahoo, and the rest are boutique, I suppose.

I'm surprised anyone is still using Scroogle. For Google results without the tracking and personalization, there are search engines like DuckDuckGo, etc.
