psafuxPremium,VIP join:2005-11-10 kudos:2 | pretty much any advertisement where someone wants money before being able to see, in person, merchandise is a scam.
The reasons and circumstances behind being unable to see said merchandise are irrelevant.
To those who might argue, "b-b-b-but Ebay!" (et al), I would return -- with legit listings you -could- see the merchandise. It's often cost-prohibitive to do so and most use feedback and common sense to detect legit listings. The seller likely wouldn't have an issue with a potential buyer stopping by if cost and time wasn't a factor.
You will find that, without exception, scam advertisements will not offer the possibility. If you ask, they will have some excuse why the merchandise cannot be viewed. If you attempt to circumvent their reasoning, they will stop responding or come up with other excuses.
Many fake advertisements have vehicles with either no license plates or license plates that are blacked out. I have not yet seen any fake ads where the license plates were clearly viewable. The ads will typically look nice (HTML) and will -always- have a free disposable email for contact. The prices will always be ridiculously low and I have noticed they like the $2600-$2900 area for a selling price.
My local craigslist is spammed frequently with these ads. There may be more fake ads than legit ones some days. It's pretty ridiculous. |
