[Extreme] Can anybody explain these Extreme signal levels please

Running on Extreme with the DPC3825. How is there such a discrepancy between the four downstream channels? Is it because Rogers is only using Channel 1 for now?

Also, at one point when the DPC3825 was re-started a few months ago, Channel 1 was more inline with the others. I rebooted it today and now it's out of whack again.

Re: [Extreme] Can anybody explain these Extreme signal levels pl

Channel 1 on your modem can be assigned to any frequency that the CMTS is using ... it isn't a fixed channel like the old analogue TV channels. So, this means that whatever frequency they're using for channel 1 is suffering both a signal degradation and noise.

First thoughts are that there's a poor chunk of cable or connector somewhere, maybe a cable that's been kinked or a connector that's had water in it. RG6 cable really shouldn't have a bend radius tighter than about 6 times the diameter of the cable itself ... so for RG6 that's about 3" (6" diameter circle).

You'd wonder why it would mess things up pushing electrons around a corner It's because the insulation separating the outside and centre conductor gets deformed bringing them closer together which changes the characteristic impedence of the cable. This impacts some frequencies more than others. Same problem when you get moisture in a connector.

There may also be a poor splitter somewhere, or even a bandpass filter that Rogers has installed.

That said, the signal is still within working limits, so unless you're getting problems, Rogers won't do much about it.

Sbrook, I disconnected the cable from the back of the modem and restarted. At first I kept getting the same results as in the first post. After a few times however, I was able to get the signals above.

How is that possible? Is Channel 1 synching to a different frequency this time?

Why worry about it? Do you have speed issues or packet loss? If not, looking at the numbers doesn't help.

I don't care about my line stats...as long as the speed is good, no packet loss, and low jitter levels, I'm happy.

Probably changed to a different frequency on Channel 1, but as I tried to say and bfksc said, what's the problem? Unless you're having connectivity issues, then this is nothing to worry about.
