I heard some TV guy try to claim once that if gambling were removed as an integral part of horse racing, that people would still come out to the track 'just for the enjoyment of the sport'.
Yeah, right. |

Yeah, right. Even with the wagering horse racing tracks are dying...the younger generation loves to gamble but they enjoy poker and betting on sports and playing mostly online. The big money people that run horse racing don't have a clue on how to run promotions to attract new people to the tracks.
There is a lot of money still spent wagering on the horses but that is done from home via the internet now instead of going to the track.....I have a live feed along with an online account through the NYRA (NY Racing Association) which runs the 3 major horse tracks here in New York ( Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga ) ...I get track payoffs with no surcharges like at an off-track betting parlors and can wager right up to post time.....plus I get a rebate program and other benefits due to the amount of money I wager....First shot at the best seats for events like the Belmont Stakes for example.....playing the horses online in my home state has been the best thing that has ever happened...plus they provide live feed and wagering for many tracks throughout the country...If I have a horse I'm following show up to race in Florida, California or anywhere in the country one click on the mouse button and I'm in.
What will soon be taking place at the major horse tracks in the country is states that always have been against casino's will now legalize casino's. That will bring in the young people who love poker and blackjack...not the racino bullshit kind of video games but real casino action...at Aqueduct they allowed video games and they took in $90 Million in the first couple of months...but its a joke....no real or should I say big money to win but people flock to them....what I heard from friends in the horse racing industry is the governor of NY will allow full blown casino's in NY....like they have in Vegas and Atlantic City...
What was unheard of just a year or so ago ( real casino's ) will soon be a reality......they are even going to stop horse racing at Aqueduct race track and move the races down the road to Belmont Race Track. Aqueduct race track will be remodeled into a full operating Vegas like Casino along with the largest most modern convention hotel complex in the entire U.S.
States are desperate for revenue and horse racing facilities are not drawing anymore....so due to those two things casino's are the future....like them or not...you will see more states approve full casino operations in order to bring in the much needed revenue...
It's going to happen here in NY and I just heard last week that Florida is giving the green light to real casino's starting in the Southeast Florida area...Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County to begin with....the video racino's currently operating in Florida will all be toast when the real casino people take over....and its going to happen. And many of these states will make it legal to wager on sporting events...there is huge money there.
The Indian casino's and the video games racino's currently operating in some states will be finished.....The future is full blown Vegas Casino's in places one would never imagine. I am not crazy about casino's going in all the major states but that is what is going to happen in the very near future. There is also a lot of foreign money out there...big, big bucks and many of them love to gamble...but they want Vegas type action....not some bullshit video game on top of a bar.
The only time I step foot in a racetrack anymore is when I am out of state I will visit friends and those I know in the industry at their local track...as for NY, only track I will visit will be Saratoga....Only due to its an awesome place to spend a day and the city itself is a very cool place. |

| said by sailor:Even with the wagering horse racing tracks are dying... (etc. etc.) I assure you I need no lesson on racetracks and their demise, casinos, or online track wagering. I'm intimately familiar with all.
I myself have no online track account, but my friend up in Pennsylvania does and I've used his account before and watched my friend in action using it on many occasions. The Charles Town racetrack in West Virginia (about a forty-minute drive from me) started featuring slot machines years ago. Now they've gone full casino with table games, too. Without the casino they'd no longer be in business at all. Hardly anybody ever shows up to bet races there anymore.
I've been to casinos in places I would once never have expected to find them-- Michigan City, Indiana, Gary, Indiana, Muscatine, Iowa, Joliet, Illinois, Kinder, Louisiana. They exist in Delaware and Pennsylvania now too, and none of the above are on Indian reservations. The Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Connecticut casinos are all pulling visitors (read: gamblers) away from Atlantic City. Vegas too, no doubt.
None of those casinos have sports books, though-- except for horse racing. Another reason horse racing is separate from a "sport". Guess what? Craps, poker, blackjack, and roulette aren't "sports" either.
Not that any of this has much to do with an NFL championship game topic. Posting pics of a snowfall doesn't much relate either, for that matter.
And btw-- it's simply "casinos". No apostrophe. You gave me a state-of-gambling-in-America lesson, I'm returning the favor by giving you a grammar lesson. |

Now, on to football..

| reply to sailor There ya go. I don't care if I agree with him or not, I'm always willing to hear what Joe Willie has to say. I've always liked him, drunk or sober. A real character, a la John Riggins. |

»www.delpark.com/sports_faq.php Jesus H. . . Parlay cards? Not much profit getting raked in on those, eh?
Typical though. It's always the worst percentage to the player action that gets instated first.
But thanks for the info. I didn't know that. |
