 | [Other] 8x8 BPA430 I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. We have an 8x8 BPA430 and about 2 weeks ago our phone stopped ringing whenever someone calls. We don't even see a missed call indicator. The person calling in can hear ringing on their end but our phone doesn't ring. We can make outgoing calls but we get "dead air" for about 30 seconds before the call goes through. I have been on the phone with 8x8 every day for a week and the guy today told me there is nothing they can do to help me at this time - they have to send the information to their corporate office. I have tried the reset button, unplugging and plugging back in, etc. This is frustrating to say the least. We've had 8x8 for almost 8 years and this is the first time their tech support has told me that I'm basically shafted.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thx,
tom |

 | I know nothing about 8x8; here are some general suggestions:
Confirm that you have not accidentally set call forwarding or another feature that may be misdirecting your calls.
If you answer the phone when it should be ringing, do you get connected? If so, and you've already tried it with another phone, it's almost certainly a hardware failure in the adapter and it should be replaced. As a temporary workaround, you could set up your forwarding to simultaneously ring something else (cell phone, softphone, etc.) to let you know there is an incoming call.
If you just get dial tone when attempting to answer, possibly something has changed with your router or modem. If you haven't already done so, power off modem, router and device. Power up modem and wait for it to come ready. Then, power up the router and finally the BPA. If that doesn't help, try the BPA at a friend's or neighbor's to be sure that it's not a problem with your network.
If you forward calls to your cell phone or other service that you have, do incoming calls work properly?
The BPA430 has two phone ports. If the other one is active, does it work properly? If the second port is not used, can 8x8 configure your account for it, to rule out a failure of the first port? |

 | Thank you for your suggestions. I don't have call forwarding or any other feature set so that's not the issue. I tried your suggestion of calling from my cell phone and then answering while it was supposed to be ringing - when I answer I just got dead air and I continued to hear ringing from my cell phone.
Then I tried the suggestion of the powering off the modem, router and adapter - this didn't help... In fact, I couldn't even get a dial tone after so I had to push the reset button on the adapter just to get a dial tone.
Then I tried forwarding the number to my cell phone. This is where it got bizarre. When I called my home number after I set it to forward - my home phone rang. Something just isn't right!

tom I'm guessing you CF your number on 8x8 web site. In this case call them and let them know, seems to be a problem on their end and your account might need to be 'reset'. |

 | Another update - I had my wife try calling the home number from her cell phone and it did forward through to my cell phone. Now, when I try calling the home phone from my cell phone (which it is forwarded to) the home phone rings. Crazy... |

Anybody have any suggestions? Yes, I suggest that you ditch them!
No one should have to put up with that.
It sounds like you are either residential, or a rather small business, and in either case 8x8 does not want that type of customer anymore anyway.

|
 | Nope - nothing has changed |

 | The strangeness that you observed with forwarding is normal and is "smart" behavior. The system recognized that you were calling from the same phone to which you were forwarding. It wouldn't normally be useful to call yourself in this way, so it bypasses the forwarding in this case. When your wife called, forwarding worked as expected.
However, there is something interesting here: when you called your own number from your cell phone (and your home phone rang), what happened upon answer? Did you have audio in both directions? If so, that points to your adapter being ok and a problem on the 8x8 server. It would also be interesting to test with forwarding off, calling in from your cell. If that works, too, then it appears that the problem (if still present) is limited to callers from one or more specific carriers. |

 | reply to tikicarver Tom, I have the SAME EXACT problem with my 8x8 phone. Support blamed my cable company (media com). I had mediacom come check and all was fine. All of my other devices work without issue. My Internet connection is great and tests well on all the testing utilities. I am trying one more time with support then I am moving on. Too bad if they deny again because they were great until a few months ago. Al |

 | reply to tikicarver You may want to try updating your devices firmware and set a static IP /DMZ. If you are using a modem/router combo for your internet, the firewalls will cause issue. The recommendation is to bridge the combo unit and add a stand alone router; dlink dir555 is a good one. |

 | reply to AlHe Same problem. They blamed it on DSL company changing the modem firmware and told me to add a router between. I told them give me 6 months free service to pay for the router since for 8 years I have had nary an issue. They said no. I said bite me. Way too many offerings out there that just work.
