| belkin playmax adsl download speed and wifi A few days ago my adsl download speeds dropped dramatically from 1.4Mbyte /sec to 150Kb/sec. Nominal adsl connection speed DID NOT change and remained 14.500bit. As a result youtube videos (that used to be playable in HD) would not even load at 360p, torrents (even very popular ones that i tested) would stall at 120 -140kb/sec etc etc.... Speedtest.net testing also confirmed the low speed.
Initially i blamed by adsl downstream noise margin (s/n ratio) which was accoding to the router 9dB but before calling my ISP for a "noise accross my line" complain i decided to do some tests
I disabled wifi and INSTANTLY adsl download speed was back to normal and all tests showed that. I used to operate my wifi without security BUT with mac address filtering. Also i frequently check the connected devices and never found a suspicious address or a total number not justified by my own wireless devices...
Nontheless, I renamed my wifi network, enabled wpa2 security , disabled broadcast ssid and tested again.
INSTANTLY after reenabling wifi with the new security settings, adsl download speed droped to 100kbit... even the best hacker wouldnt be able to hack these security settings in 1 sec....
I disabled wifi once again and download speed back to normal INSTANTLY.
I went on enabling/disabling wifi always with the same instant result (testing was done through my desktop which is hardwired to the router and unaffected by enabling/disabling wifi)
So there must be a purely hardware issue where enabling wifi lowers adsl download actual speed without causing nominal connection speed to drop or adsl hangups....
any1 have any idea as to what may be happeing? |
