| [Cable TV] How much to buy the Huawei DTA box? I already have one, but there is another TV in my house that is connected to only analog cable.
The one I have was a freebie provided during the summer.
How much would it cost to buy an actual adapter, provided that they're still selling them?
Or, could I go to FS or Best Buy etc. and get my own Digital to Analog box? (if that would work, I dont know).
OR...
I was considering the $200 Shaw Moto DCX3400 from BestBuy. I would rather get that instead, but Im not sure if it would work. Theres a topic of some guy who got that box, but from Comcast through eBay.
Does (or will) the Shaw box work alright on Cgo-s network?
Thanks in advance |

| From what I understand, the Huawei DC730 is not available to purchase at the retail level. That is, at Futureshop or other retailers. Only through Cogeco (or other cable providers, regionally). I've not been able to locate one anywhere. It is also my understanding that Cogeco no longer sells them outright - they stopped doing that back in September. I think in terms of the DTA you're stuck renting one from Cogeco. I could be wrong on that one.
On a side note, I'm sure glad I'm not stuck taking part in that crap. What a scam.
Mike -- No more UBB... nor more AVP... now it's "Capacity Based". Oh... wait... isn't that what we wanted? |

As for the DCX3400, order one from Best Buy and try it. Worst case situation you drive back to the store and return it for a 100% refund. Just don't tell them it's a DCX3400 when you activate it.
If it does work, tell us. I can think of someone who would absolutely love to stop paying $20/month for the 6416-III they have now. |

1 edit | I neglected to mention that I have another tele in the house that's connected to a standard definition box, the DCT700... It's on a free rental period, till April (I switched the internet from Bell to Cgo, then the tech brought the box into my house and offered it for free :P , nice guy).
Could that stop me from getting another free adapter? (the fact that I have that sd box from them)
And for certain, I'll try it out... whenever I get around to lol. Do you think if I say "I got a DCX700 here ..." would that work? After all, they used to sell/rent DCX700's as HD boxes before they moved onto Pace ones.
@Dilly - Thanks for the post, I'll look into it |

As for the DCX3400, just say you've got any sort of Motorola box, be it a 6416 which they still give out or a DCX700 or whatever. Just don't say DCX3400 as they don't sell those in Ontario (though they do in Quebec from what I gather) |

| Really? Hmm... I'll definitely give Cgo a call tomorrow to see if I can get that DTA box. If its free, heh, I'll take it. I'm not sure though if it still exists, due to the fact that conversion for Stoney Creek/East Hamilton occurred around late August, Early September, but I'll reply back with news tomorrow after I give them a call.

Or did you mean they don't sell them through Cogeco? |

GonePremium join:2011-01-24 Fort Erie, ON kudos:1 | Cogeco doesn't deploy the DCX3400 in Ontario. They do in Quebec though, at least if I remember correctly.
And yeah of course Best Buy in Hamilton is going to have the DCX3400, a huge swath of Hamilton is Shaw territory. Lucky sonsofbitches they are. You probably won't find the DCX3400 for sale in St. Catharines or at a Burloak store, though. You can order them online and return them to any Best Buy though, so you really have nothing to lose by picking one up even if it doesn't work. |

 | ah okay that makes sense ...
Lol, I'll definitely check it out whenever i Have time in my busy schedule...
Thanks for your help! |
